Wow, Bravestarr, now this takes me back. I was probably a little older than the target audience when this came out, back in the late 80's, but I've always been a fan of imaginative and fun animation. While this show was aimed at the younger, pre-teen crowd, I had friends of various ages who got a real kick out of it. The animation was better than you'd think, with abstract colors and the music was a step above the usual Scooby-Doo sound effects (Don't get me wrong, Scooby is cool too.) The stories could be a bit heavy handed with the morality but sometimes that made for a better story, actually. If you don't already know, this series was about a Native American Sheriff who travels to the planet of New Texas to bring some law & order to the rough and tumble frontier. It's cowboys in space, how can you go wrong?

I liked this better than Filmation's more successful cartoon, He-Man. The stories were more interesting and I thought they'd take risks you'd never see on He-Man.

Another reviewer remarked that the pilot was not included in this DVD. That's probably true. I'm no expert on Bravestarr but I always thought that the episode, SHERLOCK HOLMES IN THE 23RD CENTURY, was the pilot episode and that it was just shown later in the season for some reason. Like I said I could easily be wrong about that. The Sherlock Holmes episode was pretty good by the way. It has Sherlock fall from Reichenbach Falls just as a time warp opened, carrying him into the time of "Bravestarr. TO me that's imaginative and literate. There were plenty of other stories just as good. I'd recommend it to anyone who likes Filmation, good cartoons for kids, or imaginative visual storytelling.

Bravestarr was a real gem of a cartoon series from the late 1980s that was unfortunatly overlooked in favor of other cartoons from that time period. It's great to see it get a complete series DVD set and was excited to get it. I really enjoy this set but unfortunatly has a few problems that are hard to overlook:

-Audio track for episode "Eye of the Beholder" is missing. (Even though it's advertised on the back of the box)
-End of episode "Sunrise, Sunset" is cut off. (The last 2 minutes is missing)
-The origin movie is not included, which is odd because this set is supposed to be "complete". (The movie is rather significant to the show because it's what kickstarts the Bravestarr series)
-Episodes are out of order. (Not really a problem unless you want to watch the episodes in the correct order which you'd have to look up a list online)

I would have given this DVD box set 5 stars if not for the missing stuff.

This really is a great series and would recommend this set, especially since it has all the cartoon's episodes in one package, but just beware that this particular set is not without it's flaws.

It has been a long time since I was this impressed with an action cartoon series. This is almost as good as He-Man, but half as many episodes and the premise of a space western makes it more wild. The villains are more intelligent than He-Man's enemies. I also appreciate that there are no rainbow characters hiding in camouflage somewhere, then jumping out and saying "Here I am".
I already owned a sample of the beginning sequence music from a DVD extra from Journey Back to Oz which was where my interest originated. Being that I admire native American Indians and the set includes 7 DVDs with extras trailers and commentaries for under twenty dollars, I had to get it.
Alas, BraveStarr is Filmation's last cartoon series.
I know the reason, but I will ask anyway,: Why did you have to go?

Great color really great i watch the episodes in my full hd 40" tv and looks really good.My only complain is the lack of special features. I love the show its amazing and have a very great episodes.Even more than He-man i think. This is the best show of filmation.

The package is good and contains a little book with de name of episodes and a trivia with interesting details. Dont think twice this is a must have.

Bravestarr was the last project Filmation released & I am pleased they released the entire series as opposed to volumes,The collectors such as myself who purchase these classics are fiends for nostalga & I wish for more classic late seventies, eighties & early nineties animation for my collecticn. If somebody knows whom to contact, ask for Filmation Mighty Mouse to be released next. But I am very satisfied with my purchase & it's timely delivery

Only 2 discs into this series and so far been nothing but good writing, good animation, and overall very good and inventive story telling. I would go so far as to say great, but I am no cartoon aficionado. I have been enjoying watching this series and I am old. I bought a variety of cartoon collections here on Amazon recently and Bravestarr has been the one I have been watching the most cause it is just good entertainment plain and simple and doesn't even come across as being an old cartoon.

The box is both odd and interesting. Others cartoons came in slim DVD packaging and this came in a large plastic dvd box with each dvd in a paper wrapper stacked inbetween a plastic inside. The box is a jumbo looking dvd case about the size of 3 dvd cases. Large but also makes for a nice package presentation and seeing which disc inside is which is easy because each disc is numbered and there is a clear plastic circle to see which disc is which. Basically I am saying this is a dvd shelf item, not a dvd slot rack item for storage. Anyway, worth every penny.
