From the Inside Flap

While serving in Desert Storm, my team fought more than one battle: one was the impending chemical attacks, the other was each other. We were stuck in a land without TV, family, transportation, and without society. We were men trained to kill, with giant egos, humor, personal battles, tension, a shroud of death lingering silently above us, and intoxicated with Esprit de Corps. We turned to taunting each other for entertainment. One can only imagine what the symbol of American freedom was doing. This book brings you in touch with the real men behind the image of Marines in dress blues with stern looks. They will make you cry, make you feel fear, make you anxious, make you laugh, and make you warm. They will certainly make you realize that, even in war, the human spirit knows to bring out the best in men, which is that universal language we know of as comedy.

5.0 out of 5 stars I like reviews, but not personal opinions, July 26, 2006
This review is from: Braving the Fear: The True Story of Rowdy US Marines in the Gulf War (Paperback)
My husband bought the book at B&N last week, and insisted I read it after him. I liked it very much. When I read it, I could feel the excitement the men in the book felt. I liked that. The book does a good job of bringing you into the team...A+ on that. I give it four and half stars.

4.0 out of 5 stars I enjoyed it, July 31, 2006
This review is from: Braving the Fear: The True Story of Rowdy US Marines in the Gulf War (Paperback)
Great book. I saw several typs in the book. I would say that was a publisher issue and not a reflection on the story. It was great. I loved the little guy they abused for fun while "training him to be a nobody." He was the real underdog amongst such well trained. I did not like the language being of common foul but, it fits the attitudes.
Overall, a good book to read. Just hide it from the teenagers. I did. It will make them want to join. My boy is about the right age to get ideas. Thanks.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Story, and so much to follow., July 23, 2006
This review is from: Braving the Fear: The True Story of Rowdy US Marines in the Gulf War (Paperback)
It was a very good reading, and never got boring. The friendships were very tight and well respected. I especially enjoyed the mystery behind the green door. I asked a few USMC veterans and they all three came up with the same answer to the mystery. The book is very patriotic and one can tell the brain-washing that Marines endure during months and then years of training. It was a very good story for what the war was, as it was a scuffle in the desert we call Desert Storm. Also, the writer had some very good points on solving the constant crisis in the middle east...I liked his ideas.
