Can Marcus Reid convince Hayley Bravo that he is ready to be married?, October 27, 2007

Another Bravo family, 2 girls no less, to get to know. Hayley had been Marcus's assistant at Kaffe Central in Seattle WA and of course fell in love with him but he has an ex-wife that he seems to be in love with still. Hayley left him and Seattle to come home to Sacramento CA some months ago but now he is looking her up, he wants to be over her but can't seem to be. Hayley is a wonderful heroine, we don't feel her being desperate in her situation just wanting Marcus to be a good man and father and willing to let him find his way to this. Marcus is a very wounded hero who doesn't understand how Hayley can be her own person but finds he loves her for it.
Here it is mid-December and he's standing on her front steps. She answers the door and looks very pregnant and doesn't want anything to do with him. He can't believe that he is the father but within minutes realizes he is. He's shocked! He proposes within hours but she doesn't want to marry only for the child's sake--she wants Marcus to love her!
He wants to take her back to Seattle but she won't go. She's finally found a family-she was at her mother's deathbed and meets a older brother and sister she never knew about. They have become so important to her she doesn't want to leave them and she's not sure about Marcus anyway. She convinces him to spend the last few weeks of December with her in Sacramento.
This is their love story as Marcus has to deal with his feelings for his ex-wife and what he feels for Hayley. It's a great story too! There is a reunion in Las Vegas and we do see lots of the Bravos-bigger than life Caitlin Bravo, what a kick she is, and a whole lot more of the BIG family. Lots of humor which Ms Rimmer is known for and those great characters she creates. The Bravos are a great family that Ms Rimmer has given us!

A nice christmas romance, December 9, 2007

First off, though I read serial romance, I don't do it often. So, I'm completely out of the loop with this Bravo series. The concept totally freaks me out. Some dude was a serial marrier and killer? And he fathered like a hundred kids in different marriages? And, now that he's dead, they're all finding each other and they're a big happy family?
Sorry, that's just weird.
But this story has little to do with that over-arching plot, with the exception that Hayley is a Bravo. Her mother gave her up for foster care (but would not let her be adopted) when she was small. She has all sorts of abandonment and isolation issues.
She falls in love with her boss, Marcus, who is as emotionally isolated as they come. She entices him into a steamy affair. She gives him love, he gives her what he can. But, she gets pregnant. And since he won't want the child, she leaves. This is 7 months before the story begins :)
Our story opens with him tracking her down, because he wants to close the chapter and can't seem to, and instead finding her in full blossom with his child. What ensues is a bittersweet courtship.
There are problems, of course. People who have been as emotionally abused as these two aren't going to find the end of the rainbow easily. But the challenges in the journey make it even more sweet. Also, the author has a pretty good knack of making the physical side of the romance sensual without having to be completely full-out sexual (though she gets there, too).
Good Christmas read. It'll make you appreciate your family!
