4.0 out of 5 stars Very comfy except for nose
Most of the sleep masks I've looked at seem to ignore that people have noses. They make some small adjustment for a nose (which the designers must believe is the size of a thimble and on the upper lip). This mask is no exception. Aside from that, it is quite comfortable, and I was able to modify it into a very comfortable and light-blocking mask, if an ugly one...

Too thick. Too large. Very uncomfortable. The straps in back were stiff and scratchy.

Most of the sleep masks I've looked at seem to ignore that people have noses. They make some small adjustment for a nose (which the designers must believe is the size of a thimble and on the upper lip). This mask is no exception. Aside from that, it is quite comfortable, and I was able to modify it into a very comfortable and light-blocking mask, if an ugly one.

This mask is of the "rests on the eyelids" type. It is made from "thermal memory foam" which is soft yet firm, and is covered with a black synthetic velour/velvet type material. There is a roll of foam/velour at the bottom to rest on the cheeks and a small indentation in the roll for the nose. As with many masks, I found that the nose allowance was hopelessly small, and the mask gapped badly at the bottom. Other than that, it was quite comfortable. The velour felt nice against my skin and did not irritate, as many synthetic materials do. The foam did countour itself nicely to my face, except at the bottom. I was able to slide the wide adjustable strap down so it covered my ears; this gave some sound blocking and also helped to keep ear plugs in place.

Because the mask "almost" worked for me, and was quite nice except for the gap, I decided to experiment with it, to see if I could make it work, and I was able to. I cut the threads holding the cheek roll so that it hung down straight from the mask, then cut a slit straight up from the nose indentation, about 2 inches. This causes the mask to be much longer and to lie flatter against the face, and in addition gives a nice gap for the nose to poke through. The result is extremely comfortable and has no light-admitting gaps, even when I "scrunch up" my face. Plus, my nose doesn't have pressure on it, and can breathe. It is a bit ugly, as the foam pokes out from the slit a little, but it works.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good, December 20, 2008

These aren't exactly the same as the Sharper Image masks, but they're very close. The price is great and they are the best sleep masks! We get a lot of light in our bedroom in the morning and they block everything out. They're also really comfortable. I can sleep the whole night without my mask falling off. (which is good because it doesn't do you any good if you have to wake up to put it back on when the sun starts coming up!) I just bought more for my husband and I in case we ever lose ours!

4.0 out of 5 stars Sleeping better, December 12, 2008

This review is from: Bravo-Fit Heat Sensitive Memory Foam Sleep Mask
I bought two of these sleep masks, one for myself and one for my husband because he works a late shift and we need to sleep during some sunlight. Since your body needs melatonin to fight cancers and stay young, keeping out light is important while you sleep. I sleep much better and feel and look more refreshed using the mask. My husband won't wear his because the strap is a little thick for him and he feels it there and can't sleep. That doesn't seem to bother me since it is soft and doesn't press into your head. Everyone is different. This product really does block the light and it feels very soft though bulky. Great for your health if you sleep during times of light.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good, though a little bulky, March 20, 2007

I fly across the US twice a month, and bought this to help me get some sleep and not be distracted by the TVs and other things going on in the plane.

This mask blocks out all light, creating a totally dark environment, even if my eyes are open. The mask is very soft on my face and comfortable. Unlike the other reviewer, this doesn't bother my nose at all. I've gotten some great sleep (as great as possible on a plane) with this.

There are some downsides though:

1. Sometimes, it's HOT. I haven't figured this out, but sometimes I end up sweating like crazy around my face, which makes this very uncomfortable. Other times, it's fine. This is probably just my body being weird (?).

2. It's bulky. For me as a frequent traveler, I want to minimize the weight and the volume of everything I take with me. This mask, after my laptop, is the most bulky thing I'm flying with.

3. Wearing "over the ear" headphones with this mask is not comfortable for me; the straps for the mask interfere with the headphones.

4. There's not much padding on the sides, so a pillow is needed if you want to cuddle up with the airplane wall to sleep.

If you fly frequently, I highly recommend trying this product. It's only $20, which is nothing compared to the cost of 50,000 miles worth of tickets.

UPDATE August 2007: I bought the Brookstone version of this mask and have to say that while the Brookstone version is more compact, it doesn't block out the light as well as this mask, and the headband isn't as good as the Sharper Image product. My face gets hotter with the Brookstone version, too. I will keep flying with my Sharper Image mask.

The product is implied to be the sharper image memory foam sleep mask. It even was shipped in the box with sharper image's name on it. But about a year ago I purchased one of these masks from Sharper Image for my daughter. And when I received my order from this retailer I noticed a slight difference. So I took my items and compared them to the previously purchased mask. The items are close but not exact. These items are knock-offs copied from the original design from Sharper Image. They work just as well so I did give them 4 stars. But these are not true sharper image masks. But for this price it is well worth it.. I purchased 2 of them which was still cheaper them the first one I bought even after shipping was added. So good product but not a true Sharper Image item.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exactly What You Need, April 22, 2009
This review is from: Bravo-Fit Heat Sensitive Memory Foam Sleep Mask
I work at night and needed something that would allow me to sleep comfortably during the day. The Memory Foam Sleep Mask is very comfortable and completely blocks all light. When I wear the mask I am able to fall into a deep sleep quickly and always wake up refreshed...something I was not able to do before I purchased the mask. The price is the best on the internet. I found the same mask for $15-$20 more on several other sites!

1.0 out of 5 stars This bulky mask didn't block light or help me sleep..., March 9, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Bravo-Fit Heat Sensitive Memory Foam Sleep Mask

I've tried out several sleep masks to block out light, and this is by far the worst! In fact, the "sleep" part of its name is a complete misnomer. Based on my experience, you won't get any sleep while wearing this mask for the following reasons:

1. If you're a side or stomach sleeper, you won't be able to comfortably rest the side of your head against the pillow because the memory foam part of the mask is WAY too bulky and thick.
2. If you sleep flat on your back, the stiff and scratchy straps make a substantial lump at the back of your head that is very uncomfortable - and gave me quite a headache.
3. Another side effect of the mask's bulkiness is that the area of your face that it covers will get quite hot and sweaty.
4. Given its thickness, it does a surprisingly poor job at blocking light, especially around the nose area.

Don't waste your money...
