Not bad., May 10, 2009
This review is from: Bravo Sports Quik Shade Weekender 81 12- by 12-Foot Canopy (Sports)
I bought this last week and set it up once. It's not my first instant canopy. My last one was not a Bravo Weekender; it broke due to rust after 2 years of use (maybe used it 12 times a year for 1 or 2 days at a time).
Not sure why the other ratings on this canopy are so low other than it might be due to the fact that Bravo has redesigned the canopy and the older design might not have been as good? A friend has the exact same model but his is older. His has push pin locks, the new design has pull-pin locks. There are other more subtle differences as well but I don't think they are to do with durability. The new design has a more rounded top due to a diffent upper frame. I think this might help shed water better without rain water building up in pools on the lower part of the roof fabric. Water pooling in the lower part of the roof fabric was also a problem with my last canopy. That is, occasionally had to push the canopy up from the inside to shed the pooled water if it was raining. I haven't tried this new canopy yet in the rain so time will tell if it's any better than my last.
This canopy is easy to setup and take down. One person can do it without too much difficulty but easier with two people. It's also easy to get back into the storage bag which is important to me. It seems well made and durable. Of course it won't stand up to heavy winds but no canopy intended for temporary shelter would. I don't understand the low ratings other have left. This is a very nice canopy much better than my old one that I had for 2 years. It's perfect for camping trips and that's exactly what I use it for. Keeps the rain off your head or the sun out of your eyes. For [...] with free shipping, it's a great deal. If I get two years use out of it, I'll be a happy camper but I have a feeling this one will last longer then my last.

Quik Shade Shade Tech 12 x 12 canopy - it's OK, September 22, 2008
This review is from: Bravo Sports Quik Shade Weekender 81 12- by 12-Foot Canopy (Sports)
This product is what its name implies - and not much more. The 12 x 12 refers to the footprint - the legs don't go straight down from the canopy, they point outwards a bit... so the canopy itself is more like 10 x 10. That said it's still a 2 person operation to put up and take down. In a pinch you can do it with one person, but you might wind up damaging it - I wouldn't recommend it.
I found this on sale at Home Depot for about sixty or seventy bucks. For that price this was a good purchase. I bought it mainly for watching our daughter play soccer, but we'll also take it car camping with us.
Unfortunately, the instructions are fairly clear that this is for SHADE only - not for rain. Our last canopy was not of the 'easy-up' variety, but the canopy itself was more plastic-tarp-like, and therefore was fine in the rain as well as sun. It lasted nearly 10 years, but since it had to be assembled each time we used it, we maybe took it out 3 or 4 times a year and used it anywhere from a few hours to 2 weeks each time.
I've used my Quik Shade canopy a few times so far. It's nice because the legs have 2 settings - allowing you to drop one side (into the sun) and therefore maximize your shade making ability. This is especially important earlier and later in the day when the sun is not directly overhead. I'm toying with the idea of drilling yet another set of holes.
Ours has a bag with wheels, which is a blessing since the specs say it's something like 48 lbs. It doesn't feel that heavy but I wouldn't want to carry it a long distance. The bag has a double zipper, which I managed to break the first time I tried to close it. Probably my fault as I was trying to force it. Luckily it's a double zipper so I just use the other one and keep the broken one all the way to one side. No big deal.
The wheeled bag rolled well enough over dirt, grass, gravel and asphalt. There is a handle at the top of the bag as well as on the front, and using the one on the front is more stable, but I'm tall and it's hard to hold it down that far.
The canopy does go into the bag fairly easily. The instructions say you *can* leave the canopy in place while stored, but they recommend that you don't. DUH! It's not an easy-up canopy without that in place.
So, 3 stars because it does what it says it is - a shade canopy. I'd add a star or two if it also could be used in the rain, could be set up by one person, and if the bag was slightly higher quality. I don't think this will last 10 years like my last one, but it will be used more often.

Does the job fine for $50, wouldn't pay more than $70 though, January 18, 2009
I will start buy saying I snatched this up for $40 with free shipping off Amazon during the holidays. For that price, it's a 5 star deal, but I see that it's back up to over $100 now, so I'll rate it as if I paid that much (which, by the way, I'd never do). It's advertised as a 12x12 canopy, but that's rather misleading. Truth is the CANOPY is 9x9, while the legs are 12x12. Sneaky marketing I suppose. As far as quality goes, it's a powdercoated metal frame with quality molded plastic fasteners and a fairly flimsy thin plastic-esque fabric for the canopy. I was pleasantly surprised the first time I used it while using it for shade during a backyard project. Everything felt very solid and pretty well thought out. It was easy to set up with another person helping, and the whole operation takes about 5 minutes total. The canopy is extremely thin and didn't even keep morning dew off the table below it, so I wouldn't expect it to do well in rain. For tailgating, party or camping, it's probably just fine. I suppose that's why this is part of their "weekender" series. I've used it twice and it's done the job I've expected of it, but I wouldn't pay any more than $70 for it.
