A desperate and delicious romance from beginning to end! The hero is heroic and the villain duly wicked, the lady is fine and dainty and all the cast is thrown into a marvelous turmoil only to be confoundingly set to rights in the end. The more I read these old romance novels the more annoyed I am that I keep seeing horrid movies based on lousy books. Why not make a movie out of this little gem? Or the Monk? Are they not properly horrible and exciting?

A joy to read, especially if you're of a more romantic sensibility.
