Yes...if you want to hear what a true bassoonist can do,stop looking and start listening to Benjamin Coelho accompanied by the Maia String Quartet.Having had the honor of hearing Coelho and The Maia perform (some are from my home Conservatory),this digital Crystal records recording is sublime listening.The Gordon Jacob Suite is of particular mention here for its perfection in tone and sensitivity.Highly recommended for artistry and recording value.

This is a fine cd of music written for bassoon and strings, which is a wonderful combination of instruments.Benjamin's playing is gorgeous, and the selected pieces for his cd are full of musical substance. My favourite is Dirie's composition, plenty of poetical connotations and interesting sonorities. |
