4.0 out of 5 stars Very Quaint
I really enjoyed this CD, but please note that these are not all Jobim songs. Rather, they're mostly Stan Getz and Luiz Bonfa songs... literally. And they have been given different names. It should also be known that all of the songs are on a double cd which someone else here had mentioned.

The music is hard to explain, but it is a very good of course (Getz,...

2.0 out of 5 stars Jobim?
I doubt if Jobim had a lot to do with this album. Most of the numbers on this cd can be heard either on the Luis Bonfa album 'Composer of Black Orpheus Sings and Plays' or the Bonfa/Getz album 'Jazz Samba Encore'. And most of the compositions on this record are also usually credited to Bonfa, but with different titles. As far as I can tell the only two 'real' Jobim...

2.0 out of 5 stars Jobim?, July 29, 2000
This review is from: Do Brazil: Gold Collection (Audio CD)
I doubt if Jobim had a lot to do with this album. Most of the numbers on this cd can be heard either on the Luis Bonfa album 'Composer of Black Orpheus Sings and Plays' or the Bonfa/Getz album 'Jazz Samba Encore'. And most of the compositions on this record are also usually credited to Bonfa, but with different titles. As far as I can tell the only two 'real' Jobim numbers on the cd are 'Janelas Abertas' and 'Estrada Branca, which are featured here in 'okay' versions. But all in all, if you are interested in hearing this music, you might be better off buying the two abovementioned albums, since they have a much better sound quality.

3.0 out of 5 stars Ok disc, but not Jobim, February 9, 1999

This CD features ten compositions written or co-written by Jobim, played by an uncredited group of musicians. It does not, however, contain the master himself. Consider this a warning! Having said that, the music is well- played and (of course) well written. There's a great-sounding jazz saxophonist who is featured on two selections whom I recognize to be Stan Getz. Audio quality is questionable, at best.

The music is hard to explain, but it is a very good of course (Getz, Bonfa, etc.), as if it is played romantically on an older styled record player. The sound quality is hardly to be envied. It sounds as if a tape recorder was placed against a speaker as the record played (don't laugh. That might have been how this cd was made). But that quiet sound takes you back into time, almost imagining a honeymoon on a private beach.

Nice CD. And for the price, it is very good to add to the collection.

3.0 out of 5 stars Obscure collection, June 20, 2000

Great music. Poor sound quality. No info about the cd whatsoever. Who played on it? When was it recorded? Still, may be worth getting for the price..

4.0 out of 5 stars Romantic, October 4, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Do Brazil: Gold Collection (Audio CD)
The only reason this CD is not four stars is because it is only half of a double CD set. Other than that, it is incredibly romantic and nostalgic. It reminds you of a quiet sunset on a beach with the love of your life. The sound quality isn't perfect but that imperfection gives the CD charm for classic enthusiasts. It also greatly contrasts to the more popular Jobim titles. This'll definitely get your mouth wet but if you can, find the double CD.

A very nice collection of some obscure songs. I enjoyed the CD very much. Was very happy to add it to my extensive collection. Overall, it's a good deal! Eventhough every cut on the CD did not have total consistent Stereo Sound; I still found Value in the music. David
