If you can pick up this 44 page book for a reasonable price it is a good starter for an education on China. It has a most welcome pronunciation guide, even for the age 4-8 level that it is aimed at. It conveys pictures of both the historical and the everyday life in China.

However it does skip over the deaths during Mao's revolution and seems to blame most of them on "a famine got in the way". There is also no mention of the pollution problems which even at this young age could be brought up.

It is a beginning look at the world and a country that is bound to play a huge role in this younger generation's future.
