I have been using The Brazilian Kitchen in my typically Italian kitchen for the last 2 months and I have to say... I am sold. The recipes are so user friendly and spicy enough to satisfy various guests tastes without being overwhelming. try the Caldo Verde, (Portuguese Soup) and the Curried Chicken Salad.YUM !! In the day when every thing is at our finger tips on the internet, I still enjoy the feel of a cookbook in my hands and especially the display of this catchy cover on my cookbook stand. I would love to see more of Ms Schwartz's recipes...especially the dessert ideas. Maybe the next book is on the horizon?Roberts wife(trying to get Robert to cook next !!)

Real Brazilian food- Best Brazilian cookbook available.,
This review is from: The Brazilian Kitchen: 100 Classic and Creative Recipes for the Home Cook (Hardcover)
As a Brazilian-American and an avid cook of all things Brazilian, this book thoughtfully guides you through essential Brazilian recipes to know, [Brazilian Cheese bread, Meat Feijoada, Brazilian Fish Stew, Chicken Salad with homemade potato sticks, Steak with Fried Eggs], as well as some new Brazilian-influenced modern favorites- [Salmon with Caipirinha risotto, Tilapia with Acai sauce, Red pepper and Brazil nut pesto, a light Chicken Feijoada]. This presents not just an "ethnic" cookbook, but a practical how-to for cooking methods/substitutions/good kitchen wisdom as well.I was given "Brazil A Cook's Tour" cookbook by Christopher Iodine about 10 years ago. Nice pictures, nice story ab the Englishman's travels - a couple nice recipes, but, as other readers have pointed out- no one tried the recipes/measurements before publishing the book! It is clear Moreinos Schwartz is sharing with the reader her time-proven personal recipes, with vignettes, influences and the journey she took to perfect them. She is clearly a international chef who has mastered both cooking and pastry who is writing a book, not a writer trying to capture some tasty recipes. A bonus to the reader that the recipes are titled in English with the Portuguese underneath, something no other Brazilian cookbook available does, but obviously a no-brainer. The recipes are clear yet very concise and not too wordy, which is important when you are tackling a new cuisine that can be daunting. The only pity about this cookbook is that the editor missed a fully repeated line on pg 56 in their effort to publish...an amateur mistake that should have been avoided. Hope this review is helpful! LOVE the pictures and the texts!!! Brought me beautiful memories of my beloved country. It has the most traditional brazilian recipes but improved by a chef. It`s a great book to have displayed somewhere in your house so your guests can see it and learn a little more of Brazil.

From the reviews and previews, I thought this book would help me learn to cook some dishes from my husband's native Brazil. I was primarily interested because of the pictures and because the measurements are for the American reader. I was also glad that the author states that she tried to make some of the recipes less heavy/healthier than they are prepared in Brazil. However, many of the recipes are not dishes my husband grew up eating. It seems that besides some desserts and recipes for "street food" that the recipes are from more rural Brazil, not the city, and are not always dishes that the "average" (if there is such a thing :) ) Brazilian would recognize. Also, some ingredients can be hard to find if you don't have a Brazilian market in your area. It's good for learning, and heavy on seafood dishes. The Brazilians I know definitely eat more meat than fish, so just something to keep in mind. I don't regret buying it, but I think there must be better cookbooks out there for common Brazilian cooking.

Now that the liquor cachaca has come to the United States, my husband and I had been experimenting with both the caipirinha drink as well as recipes based on it. This author has solved our problem. She is very, very helpful about how to mix different type caipirinhas to suit your taste, and the cachaca-based recipes are fabulous - we loved the marinated hanger steak (we substituted porterhouse, and will try it on lamb as she suggested) and can't wait to try the salmon with risotto. I'm lazy about making desserts, but with her coconut cheesecake topped with guava sauce, how can you resist?

An Excellent Guide to Brazilian Cooking,
This review is from: The Brazilian Kitchen: 100 Classic and Creative Recipes for the Home Cook (Hardcover)
I received this book as a birthday gift, and have so far found it very useful and easy to follow. As a native Brazilian (who has lived outside of Brazil for years now) I have been looking to recreate the tastes of many dishes I enjoyed in Brazil and this book is a big help as it's easy to follow and like previous reviews stated, she uses ingredients commonly found in the US but that do not detract from the original taste. This is a huge help, considering that Brazilian recipes I find online (from Brazil) often times have a laundry list of ingredients that are impossible to find/ translate in the US. The one dissapointment was the brigadeiro recipe...I've made brigadeiros plenty of times in my life and decided to give the author's take on it a try. I think she unnecessarily complicates a simple recipe which removes too much of the sweetness, I would stick to the simple basic ingredients and make smaller balls to deal with the richness, but it's all a question of personal preference. Overall, a fantastic cook book that I would recommend to anyone that's interested in cooking authentic Brazilian dishes.
