25 years of listening to this album, and I still love it.,

I bought this record in my hometown of Copenhagen when I was about 12 or 13 years of age. Ever since then, it's had a special place in my heart, an I never get tired of listening to it. I'm glad to see that it's been rediscovered as a classic, (eps. after years of friends telling me it was a cheezy record -- before jazz, funk, and latin became mainstream in the clubs again ;) The keyboard solos on this record are mind blowingly melodic, and some of the meanest funkyist trombone you'll ever hear is on this record. But the bass playing tops it all. If you are a bass player, this record is a must; a brilliant example of how to be funky, melodic, and totally unique and innovative with every note played. Funkier than anyone who ever thumbed or slapped a bass string. (I believe it's Byron Miller...?)

George Duke...He's the best because he's himself,

This review is from: Brazilian Love Affair (Audio CD)
Who were the pop, funk, jazz, or rock musicians playing IN BRAZIL with BRAZILIAN musicians in the late 1970's and early 1980's? The list isn't that extensive, but you have to put George Duke up there on that list. This album is outstanding from end to end. The improvisation is super tight, the songwriting is excellent, the overall playing is impressive, and the spiritual vibe of this project is simply lovely. A true "labor of love" that works spectacularly well over twenty-years later.Bravo George!

A classic of happy rhythm for the next century,

Whenever I want to feel GOOD, I play this album. No matter how depressed I'm feeling, withing 10 minutes I'm singing and dancing! Although recorded in the seventies, this album should be a listening classic of Brazilian music for the next century. Smooth, happy sounds with that inimitable George Duke touch of originality and quality.

Superb,

This is what I grew up on and it sounds every bit as fresh today as it did then. When friends come around and feel like a toe tap I just put on Brazillian Love Affair. To quote from the title track "I found a lover, by the seaside.. with sexy brown skin and ...". Up from the sea it arose and ate Rio is another track that really gets me going. This album also features some of the best talent in the Jazz/Latin world, Airto, Flora Purim to name a few. All I can say is go get it and you will not be let down.

This Album is all I need to take a rest after a hard working day. It seems you are feeling the warm brazilian sun on your skin. The mix of jazz, funk, fusion and brazilian rhythmes takes you into a new dimension of music. What can I say more? Here it yourself!

This is the one desert Island George Duke CD to have. The music i s so happy and infectious it is unbeliavable. The main title is great but the real gift are in the other brazilian songs. Put down the lights - crank it up and get surrounded by one of the gratest latin flavoured jazz fusion albums of all time. You can't beat this and sorry if I sound like a salesman....

"Brazillian love Affair" sounds pretty natural for Duke-he isn't that concerned with trying to please any audiance with funk or jazz.Instead he follows his always present latin-Americanheart with tunes such as "Summer Breezin'","Cravo E Canela", "I Need You Know" and the lovely "Ao Qui Vai Nascer".Also of note of the funky "Sugar Loaf Mountain" and the dancable, pulsing tital song.Overall an artistic statement of intent for George Duke and probably a good starting point too!

Great solid disc,
This review is from: Brazilian Love Affair (Audio CD)
George Duke is very well rounded in musical styles.he has no-limits.he is a tight Keyboard player.and the musicians he has here are on point.the material is very strong.since it is a Brazilian theme album I'd Loved if he would have hooked up with Maurice White.but this album is Smooth.

This was my intro to George Duke, what a great album!
Whether you like Braziliam music, jazz, rock, or fusion you'll enjoy this relaxed yet intensely produced effort by multi--keyboardist, vocalist Duke. Everything about the CD is perfection including the song order and guest musicians Airto, Flora Purim, and contrary to another reviewer Milton Nascimento (he's on one of the last tracks, I believe). Crank this one up, put on your sunglasses, open a Corona and enjoy a wonderful jazz-rock Brazilian-tinted experience! Then do it again. |
