5.0 out of 5 stars If I only owned one cd...
I have purchased seven copies of this cd, for gifts to friends (with or without children) and have several copies for myself. If I were to be stranded on a desert island, this would be my first choice of music to have with me. Although I speak Portuguese, you don't need to know the language to appreciate the beauty of the music and lyrics. A songbook helps monolinguals...

2.0 out of 5 stars Save your money and just buy the Latin Lullaby
This was a remix of some of the songs on the latin lullaby CD which I thought was outstanding. However, I really liked the Latin Lullaby CD much more than this and would recommend only buying the Latin Lullaby...this "Brazillian" CD was just too similar and not as nicely done to bother buying.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Music!, July 11, 2001

I bought this CD because I am Portuguese and I was looking for music for children in my language. This was much greater than I expected! The music and lyrics are beautiful and you really don't have to understand Portuguese to fall in love with this master piece. I also recommend this CD to adults because I truly believe that this music breaks any age, cultural, and linguistic barriers. The Portuguese, Brazilian, and Afro-Portuguese cultures are extremely rich in History, Music, and Literature. This is an example of such majesty!

5.0 out of 5 stars You Won't Get Sick of This One, August 23, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Brazilian Lullaby (Audio CD)
We've been listening to this one every night for 16months, and we still love it. The music is beautiful, not cloying or sweet. And maybe it's just because we don't understand the lyrics, but it doesnt' get tiresome or seem condescending like so much children's music does. Not every song is a winner - there's one that's slightly annoying -- but basically, this is music I'd listen to even if I didn't have twins. Plus, as soon as it goes on my kids start nodding off. Maybe it's just a Pavlovian response, but hey, whatever works!

5.0 out of 5 stars superb, loving, sensual, June 23, 2000
This review is from: Brazilian Lullaby (Audio CD)
I came across this cd by accident while visiting Lisbon. I listenend to samples and immediately fell in love with it. It combines the sensuality of brazilian music, with the universal love that parents feel for their children. but without becoming a tearjearker once. My children of 3 and 8, who don't speak a word of portuguese by now know five songs by heart, and love every note of it. A tip for singers who are in to music for small kids : translate this!

One of my all time favorites! I don't even have kids, and I listen to it all the time. The best of gorgeous, lilting Brasilian folk songs that will keep grown ups as happy as the kids. Makes a great gift.

5.0 out of 5 stars A real winner!, January 13, 2003

I agree with the positive reviews written for this CD. I got Brazilian Lullaby and Latin Lullaby for my son when he was about 2 months old, he's 4 months now. When he gets sleepy, I put him on the swing or slow dance with him to the music on this CD and he drifts off. He'll even smile at me when I sing along to some of the songs while bathing him or changing his diapers. I'm glad I got this CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brazillian Lullaby, January 23, 2011
This review is from: Brazilian Lullaby (Audio CD)
This CD has a very special place in my heart, as I listened to it endlessly during a very long labor before giving birth to my only child, now 6. I'm a musician and tend to be very picky and a little eclectic with my musical tastes. Many a children's CD has been banned from the house because I found it unbearably cheesy. However, the several CDs I've bought from this series have not only survived my snobbishness, but have become favorites that I could listen to all day. Aside from this particular one getting me through childbirth, it's also the one I enjoy the most, musically.(Okay, I also happen to be a fan of Brazilian music in general so I guess I am extra biased!) The instrumental arrangements backing the vocals are unconventional (to Western ears) and charming, and the vocals are simply heavenly. My son has floated off to sleep to these beautiful melodies countless times. Now that he doesn't fall asleep to CDs anymore, every time I hear these songs it magically brings me back to those crazy, exhausting and wonderful first hours, days and months with my newborn son. I will never tire of hearing them.

Do yourself a favor and choose this, or any other Ellipsis Arts recording, for the special child (of any age) in your life. And if that child is not yours, buy one for yourself, too!

5.0 out of 5 stars isso e que o papai faz 'pra nene nanar-this is the key to making baby sleep!, September 9, 2006

This CD has been in my daughter's CD player now since I bought it. She even starts to sing the title song 'nene nanar' before dozing off. The lyrics are magical and the music has enough variety to match any pre-sleeping hyperness. In my opinion, this is the best children's music CD I've purchased to date.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lullabies That Lift Language Barriers, March 7, 2002
By
"patrich0104" (Gresham, OR United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Brazilian Lullaby (Audio CD)
Initially, I bought this CD for myself because I was looking for Brazilian music that would be soothing & calming. I also wanted to hear a Brazilian flavor in some lullabies. Even though I haven't been to Brazil nor do I speak Portuguese, I DO love listening to this CD. The selections are very diverse & sound as tho' they were chosen from a variety of Brazilian cultures.
When I first heard it, I thought that a couple of selections seemed like they'd wake-up a baby rather than soothe it to sleep.
I've given a copy for a baby shower gift, as the Burbank-based
daddy grew up in Brazil. I've also given one to a Bay Area-based
mom who's 30ish daughter is living with indigenous Indians in Brazil. This music helps her to feel closer to her "child", whom
she misses very much.
