Carmen Miranda's best recordings of her brazilian period.,

Before coming to America in 1939, Carmen Miranda was the biggest female radio star in Brazil, with already a career of 10 years. This CD presents 25 of her greatest hits in those times, and we can see that her malicious way of singing was not a Hollywood creation, but something of her own. Most of the songs are delicious and Carmen is always superb.

Very brazilian! No pseudo-brazilian music but one of the really brazilian music styles.

Carmen Miranda
"The Brazilian Recordings" (Harlequin Records) ---------------------------------------------- This is an amazing collection of Carmen Miranda's best classic recordings, made in the 1930s, before she moved to the United States. This is possibly the finest "samba cancao" (song-samba) music ever made, one great, perky, super-fun song after another. She is backed by many of the top musicians of the era -- Benedito Lacerda, et. al -- and the arrangements are a blast. It looks as though the Harlequin/Interstate label has gone out of business, which is a shame since they had the best taste and widest range of any reissue label I've ever seen. Snap this disc up if you get a chance. (DJ Joe Sixpack, Slipcue Guide To Brazilian Music)

I love the songs of Carmen Miranda, not the Hollywood version, but the Brazilian earlier versions that made her famous.
This is a good compilation, but I can't listen to this CD very long. In this age of digital sound is there any way to remaster a better quality? |
