this two part album is indeed a prelude of better things to come: bossa nova came to existence a few years later, from this magificent album one can almost hear Jobim and it is not a stretch to say that he (Jobim) is the intellectual heir of Almeida and Bud Shank. A must posession for all samba and bossa nova fans out there.

Bud Shank is underrated. The music is hip, Greenwich Village Coffee House for the Beat Generation at about 2 a.m., not 3 or 4a.m. when the audience is wasted. No, this is for those with smarts and groove and wear sunglasses after midnight and enjoy cigarettes, caffeine and sex, not drugs.
