5.0 out of 5 stars A standing ovation for Outlandish, June 4, 2004

I first heard the song "Aicha" on a Sky Music channel and I was totally captivated by it. What an intelligent, beautiful and haunting song, I couldn't believe my ears and eyes as I watched and listened for the few minutes it flashed across my TV screen.

I had to find out more about this group "Outlandish" and I went straight online and began to dig around. Most of the internet hits took me to Danish sites of course but I found a few English ones that I could browse through and get more information about the song and its singers. Of course I was delighted that the group had an Album out and I purchased it immediately. I was a bit worried I might not like any of the other songs but I needn't have worried. They were all as intelligent and as well sung as "Aicha" was.

I was also amazed about the group's three young singers who come from such diversely different backgrounds. How were they able to come together and create such amazing lyrics and music?

Perhaps it was their common experience of being strangers in a strange land? "Aicha" is a song/rap about a Muslim girl looking after her family and the life she leads in exile. Perhaps this is a song that goes to the heart of the group itself which is made of up of refugees/asylum seekers?

All the lyrics to all the songs are intelligent and heartfelt and I have only ever heard intelligent rap from people like "Miss Dynamite", Coolio with his song "Gangsta's Paradise" and on occasions the brutally honest Eminem.

This Album certainly deserves to be a bestseller. This is an absolute must for any rap/soul/world music lover who wants something that is a little different but totally addictive.

5.0 out of 5 stars Something new, something fresh, November 30, 2003

When I first put CD in, I didn't know what to expect. I only knew one song - Aicha, which isn't really theirs.. To be honest, I like original better but this version is also very good. For the rest of the album.. I can really say it's something fresh. I really liked arabic and indian element in modern hip hop music. Songs are sung in a few diferent languages which makes this album very interesting.. Even if you don't understand the lyrics, you can still enyoj the song.
I really think everyone should at least listen this album.. If not buy it.. I know I will.. Because it will really fill my collection.. Music for special moments.. =)

4.0 out of 5 stars A Good Start!, January 12, 2004

Outlandish has catchy beats. Its worth hearin, really. I liked all of the songs, but its funny why they are not so popular yet. Most of the beats are oriental and lots of the music is composed through indo/pak instruments.

5.0 out of 5 stars Buy It!, April 30, 2004

This album is one of a kind. The Denmark trio's style is much different from mainstream rap. It's a blend of different styles of music from each of their cultural backgrounds. It's off the hook. A must have.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Fresh Group, January 7, 2004

This a great group with refreshing music. The keep their songs clean, which is difficult to find for a hip hop group. If their songs were played on the radio in the US they would be a smash hit in no time.

I love this cd! I first heard it in a record store in Armenia. They were playing it, and I heard the spanish lyrics and it caught my attention (after hearing Russian and Armenian for a while, and language I understand is bound to catch my attention).
Anyways, I bought it immediately based on that one part! And it was the best decision I ever made.

One of the 3 star reviewers (E. Jones) got it right! Skip this particular album if you are looking for great clean moral music. Why? Just too much causing. I really like some of the tracks but ended up deleting them from my playlist because of "f _ _ _" words used quite unnecessarily . It is a shame because many of those were my favourite tracks in the Album. Isam has a great voice and the group gives you such amazing vocal varieties, but my sense of morality did not make me keep some of the tracks. The tracks I could not keep are:

- Peelo
- Gritty
- El Moro
- Dirty Dirty East
- Life is a loom

If you are buying MP3s, I would recommend these:

- Introduction (very good)
- Aicha
- Fatima's hand

Out of curiousity and due to reviews, I will try their newer album. Also, I see that Isam is part of songs by other great Nasheed singers, so they must have matured out of this 2003 disappointment into something cleaner. OR maybe they should remake this album and remove the cause words.

I promise to write another review on the next album... wish me luck!

5.0 out of 5 stars unique, September 15, 2007
This review is from: Bread & Barrels of Water (Audio CD)
I first heard these guys on Youtube when I put in Aicha. Their music is not only entertaining but meaningful. Defiantely original. If you're not sure just go to Youtube and put in Outlandish. You'll get a ton of music videos(which are also awesome).
