4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book with so many options, December 8, 2007
I absolutely love this book. So many recipies. When my family first got a bread machine, we wondered what we could make, besides the standard bread recipe that came with the product guide. When I found this book, it opened our eyes to so many possibilties and I have tried some of the recipes that are found within it. True, a lot of them are complex and I'd probably wouldn't use them. Some of the pictures and recipes of various breads look a bit complicated and scary, and I probably will not make them. This is one of the main reasons why I have given this book four stars rather than five. But I haven't been unhappy with what I can do with the book. I have made Hot Crossed Buns and Petit Pain Au Chocolat from this book, along with the standard breads. It's well worth getting, even if you only use it to make an ordinary egg, potato, or milk bread.

5.0 out of 5 stars The only bread machine book I ever needed., January 5, 2011

I was reading a blog thing on Amazon and one was about bread machine cookbooks. One respondent said that he had bought a recipe book when he bought the machine and never had needed another one. Thinking of my own shelf of bread machine cookbooks, his remark piqued my interest. Further exploring I found I did not own the book so I ordered it. Oh how glad I am to have it. I use it almost every loaf.
The book is beautiful, the pictures are big and the recipes are very clear. The authors's little twist on loading the bread pan are brilliant (easy). It is an English author but she has made every accomadation for cooks in the USA. If you like classy things or just good recpes you will love this book. Good for beginners to old hands at bread baking.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing book! Many good recipes!, December 6, 2010

This review is from: Bread Machine (Paperback)
My mom has this book and when I moved out and got my first bread maker - I snatched it up from her until I finally had to get my own.

This books breaks down the basics of bread - all the components, and how they work together. I found it to be a good beginner level and easy to understand. I usually resort back to several basic recipes - pizza dough (amazing!) for example.

Like with any recipe book, some need a little more/less of this or that. With bread, this can definitely depend on region and humidity so I would advise keeping an eye on it when you try a new recipe out. A few I've learned need more flour than is called for.

Must have for the bread machine owner!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for Basic & Fancy Breads of All Sizes, July 7, 2008
This review is from: Bread Machine (Paperback)
This is a great book! I just got a bread machine and have been trying out all the breads.

Features I love about this book: split into many sections so you can try many breads; each recipie has measurements for three sizes of loaf depending on the size of your breadmaker (small, medium, or large).

There is a lot of variety in the kinds of breads shown, from fancy breads to doughs to basic breads. There is a lot of variety in the ingredients and in the flours, and there are a lot of breads for which it is easy to adapt recipies for vegetarian/vegan baking.

Very simple, easy-to-follow directions, and luscious pictures.

Edited to add: after about a year of making bread from this book, I have one caveat: at least one of the recipes has a typos in the ingredient measurements. The maple-oatmeal loaf, one of my favorite "daily" breads, simply would not come out correctly until I realized the author had listed the wrong amount of flour for a small bread machine. The correct measurement is not 3 and 3/4 c white flour; it is 1 and 3/4 c white flour.
