From the Manufacturer

The Breadman BK2000B 2-1/2-Pound Bakery Pro Bread Maker

Get the bread maker that makes it easy to bake like a pro and really bring home the bakery. This unique, 2-1/2-pound bread machine offers a wide range of features that you won’t find anywhere else. You’ll enjoy all your favorite baked goods at home, with exceptional results you’d expect from a baking professional.

Breadman Exclusive Features
2 1-lb loaves
Two one-pound loaves.
What's included
Controls
Fruit and Nut Dispenser
Fruit & nut dispenser.
Collapsible paddles
Collapsible paddles remove easily.

We start with a dual bread pan baking system, which allows you to bake one standard loaf up to 2-1/2 pounds or use the side-by-side 1-pound loaf pans to make two one-pound loaves of bread simultaneously. This way, you can make a traditional whole wheat bread for dinner and bake a dessert bread for after the meal at the same time.

Inside the bread pans, our exclusive patented collapsible kneading paddles collapse automatically before baking begins, to prevent the paddles from sticking in the bottom of the loaf as it bakes. This keeps the paddles out of your baked bread, to help prevent rips and tears caused in the bottom of the loaf by removing the paddles. It’s perfect for better loaves and unbroken sandwich bread.

Our final exclusive patented feature is our automatic fruit and nut dispenser. This handy feature allows you to add up to 2/3 cups of fruit and nuts into the dispenser to release automatically at the right time for perfect fruit and nut bread without waiting around. Instead of waiting around to add the fruits and nuts into a loaf at the add ingredient beep, the machine does it for you automatically. This way, your family can enjoy hot baked cinnamon raisin bread for breakfast without waking up before the sun rises to add the raisins.

Extended Program Options

In addition to these Breadman exclusive features, the Bakery Pro Bread machine offers a wide variety of your favorite programming options including low carb, gluten free, dough and jam. You also get rapid bake settings on white, whole wheat and sweet loaves, as well as a handy bake-only setting for specialty baking with ease.

This model also features our up to 15-hour delay bake timer that lets you adjust the delay anywhere from one to fifteen hours. In addition, you have a 60-minute keep warm cycle that keeps finished loaves warm for up to one hour, plus a 7-minute power failure protection system that saves program settings for 7 minutes in case of a power outage so you can still get a great loaf even if there’s a surge or brown out.

Bonus Accessories

The Bakery Pro comes with 3 bread pans; one bread pan allows you to bake up to a 2-1/2-pound loaf, while the two 1-pound bread pans allow you to bake two different loaves at the same time side-by-side. In addition, we give you a collapsible measuring cup and adjustable measuring spoon to help you get easy, exact measurements for the best loaves of bread. The Use & Care manual comes in an attractive, spiral-bound booklet along with over 100 unique recipes to excite your taste buds and inspire your baking creativity.

5.0 out of 5 stars Delicious bread with an all-in-one design!, September 27, 2010
This review is from: Breadman BK2000B 2-1/2-Pound Bakery Pro Bread Maker with Collapsible Kneading Paddles and Automatic Fruit and Nut Dispenser (Kitchen)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
*Update 11/25/2011*
Over a year later and it still works like it's brand new. I still make bread in it all the time and have never had any issues.

Appearance:
Upon receiving the Breadman BK2000B, the first thing I noticed was how visually striking this appliance is. It is large, glossy black in color, except for the chrome top panel. It has a good weight to it and feels quite well made. Each button on the control panel feels just as well made, with no sticking or cracking sound made when pressing them. When opening the lid, there were no latches or locks required to undo it. It simply opens with the lift of the lid. The lid has small handles on the side to make it easier to open when the appliance is hot. The electric cord wraps snugly underneath the base of the bread-maker for storage when not in use (I have included a picture of this in on the Amazon product page customer photos section).

In the box:
Included with this bread-maker is a single large loaf pan, 2 smaller loaf pans, a measuring cup, a measuring spoon (that measures several sizes)and an instruction booklet that holds a little something special. If you flip over the instruction booklet and turn to the back, there are TONS of great bread recipes. It also explains great tips for bread making, such as always adding your liquid ingredients first, before the dry ones, with yeast always being last. I suggest starting with the basic French bread recipe, as there are very few ingredients, making it a great starter bread.

Making bread:
Follow the order of adding the ingredients as listed by the recipes for the best bread. Just pour them in, no need to premix your ingredients. Next select the type of bread you are making from the bread type setting and then chose how done you want your crust (light, medium or dark). These settings are very accurate. With the press of 3 buttons, (type, doneness, start) the bread-maker begins making you bread. It will mix the dough, alow it to rise and then cook it. I have made several loaves and have not had the mixing padles stick in the bread, since they fold down after mixing. The bread removes from the loaf pans with great ease and clean up is even easier. Nothing sticks to the inside, making clean up effortless. As soon as you've made one loaf, it's ready for the next.

Bread taste:
The bread comes out delicious. Perfectly mixed, crispy (not overdone) crust and so very fresh. Whether your looking for light and fluffy, or chewy with a crispy crust, this makes it with perfect results.

Other thoughts:
Because of the extreme ease of use, quick clean up and amazing results, this machine is a 5 star, perfect 10. It's a bakery in a counter top appliance. You can make pizza dough, jams, breads and more. It offers a timer feature that lets you set your bread maker to begin making bread at a later time as well. Pour in your ingredients, set your timer for 3 hours before you come home from work and when you walk through the door, you will be welcomed with the smell of warm, freshly made bread, ready to serve with dinner. There is also a warming feature, that will keep your bread warm until you remove it. Made to last, simplicity of use and an eye catching design makes this Breadman BK2000B a wonderful addition to any kitchen.

ETA: I also wanted to add something I found while making several batches of bread. If you make make a loaf of bread, remove it, and then try to add more ingredients to make another loaf, you will need to wait a few moments for the bread maker to cool down before you can start the next batch. When you try too soon, you will get a screen that flashes E01. I looked this up and it is a code to let you know the bread machine needs to cool down first, before starting the next loaf. This makes sense since it's still so warm it would actually start to cook the next bread before it has gone through the kneading and rise stages.

3.0 out of 5 stars Revised review! It just died, no power after 2 months!, October 8, 2010

2/22 2011
Received the replacement, so far so good. I'll update if it suffers a similar problem as its predecessor did.

1/13/2011 update
I finally received a call back, the rep asked me many questions to ascertain if it was fixable. It was not. As this is a brand new model, I was the only person to date that had encountered this problem, yay me! :-(
The solution was to cut off the plug & mail it in a padded mailer & upon arrival they will replace the faulty unit. I certainly will put the new unit to a MUCH more rigorous baking schedule than I had the previous one, to make sure if is is going to fail, it will while still under warranty! I will continue to post my results!

1/11/2011 update
Below is a copy of my follow up email to the manufacturer after waiting DAYS for the return call (an option they give you after waiting on hold twice as long as they say your wait time would be, I gave up after 20+ minutes!)

If I ever get a reply I will let you know but for now I would not recommend ANY Breadman products for lack of customer support! The company that handles the support isn't even them!! It is a professional business that handles a bunch of other manufacturers like: Black and Decker, George Foreman, Breadman, Juiceman, Russell Hobbs, Farberware, Littermaid& Delonghi!
So buyer beware if you're thinking of customer support for one of those brands also.......

Here is my email to them:
Your Company that manufactures the Breadman BK2000B 2-1/2-Pound Bakery Pro Bread Maker, solicited Amazon to have this item reviewed by several of it's top reviewers of influence, I was chosen as one of them in this area. I had ORIGINALLY given it a VERY favorable review, however since it completely died after 2 months of light use, I have revised my previous glowing review to one that reflects my new experience with this item & the non existent support in getting ANY assistance with getting this Breadmaker up & running again! After having made a loaf of bread the previous day (all loafs were from the enclosed recipe book & all of white flour varieties) When I went to use it the next day there was absolutely no power to it, I tried unplugging it & replugging it in, nada! No juice, no error codes, NOTHING! And yes all other appliances will run plugged into that socket. AND I have unplugged it after EVERY use so NO there is no chance of a power surge from a storm in my area blowing a fuse or damaging it!

I have waited on hold for over 20 minutes (when the recording stated that the wait time was less than 10 minutes) & finally left a message for a call back, which never came in the following days after that call was placed. I am now contacting you via this website as a last resort. All of this will be related in my following updates for the Amazon Vine review I have posted! I would think you would have given better customer service knowing this is a new model being evaluated but alas........it seems that there is virtually NO customer service but a generic recording that continually loops with the same hold message!

I will not only post this on Amazon but on every site that reviews breadmakers to prevent anyone else from buying this expensive doorstop! I am extremely disappointed with your company's customer service, I know that a lemon can occur even with the best manufacturers but your lack of help is what is appalling!

1/06/2011 update
It originally worked as described below, however this morning after measuring all the ingredients.......NOTHING! NO POWER AT ALL, no error codes nothing, dead as a doornail! Major bummer as we were loving it! While it was working it was wonderful. I am on hold with customer service going on 20 minutes right now! I'll update later IF I get this resolved!
:-(

Clear off your counter and get ready to have some fun! I have had many different bread machines (Dak, Black & Decker, Zojirushi etc) in the past and what I like the most about this one is that it gives you the option to either make one large loaf (2 OR 2 1/2 pound loaf!) or two smaller 1 pound ones. This is great when I want to make two different types of bread at the same time...just press a couple of buttons and then just walk away...LOVE it! Another plus is that the paddles in the larger loaf pan are collapsible so you don't get those two holes baked in the bottom of your loaf that you'd normally get with other bread machines. It doesn't have that feature for the smaller loaf pan, but I'm hoping that maybe someday soon that they can fix it. There is also a fruit/nut dispenser that will add your ingredients at just the right time, however, I've discovered if you're making a large loaf, that the fruit and nut/dispenser is just too small, so you'll end up adding the ingredients in at the beep. It's really no big deal, it's not that hard to add some raisins and nuts at the beep...but it would have been perfect if they could have made the dispenser just a little bit bigger. Also, on my very first loaf I didn't have 1 of the paddles totally on & I had to dig the ingredients away & FIRMLY push it on again to make sure it was all the way down! After that , smooth sailing! I have just one more complaint, it's minor, kind of petty really, but it's getting on my nerves. The instruction manual is half manual and half recipe book. Awesome right? Not quite. I'm not sure if it is just my book, or if was a mass production error but every other page is upside down! Reading the manual and recipes was like some kind of cruel torture that they'd have on a reality show...other than that, I'm loving my Breadman and eating way too many carbs!
BTW, I grind my own whole wheat & it kneads the heavier wheat loaves as easily as the lighter all white flour ones! AND it IS teflon coated for those needing that info!

5.0 out of 5 stars A little bakery in a box; even gluten-free and low-carb!, September 25, 2010
We have a non-wheat eater at home, and we are not alone. Many people these days have found out they are intolerant to gluten, and others eat low-carb breads while losing or maintaining weight. Standard bread machines make bread by mixing, kneading and then baking breads with some variations of timing and temperature, but generally they have not been able to handle specialized bread mixes such as gluten free. That is, until now. This machine has additional cycles for specialized breads, so now you can use gluten free mixes, gluten free flour blends, spelt, and low carb recipes.

The Breadman BK2000B has just about everything a bread baker could want. There are 14 programs on board, including gluten free, low carb, sweet, whole wheat, as well as dough only, BAKE only (use commercial dough, or perhaps a dough you froze earlier) and jam, where you can heat and stir preserves. In addition, the paddles that mix the dough in the machine collapse, meaning you won't be pulling those out of the bottom of the loaf after it's baked, and if THAT weren't fabulous enough, there are three pans. One is a 2.5 pound standard long loaf and there are two smaller coffee-can sized 1 pound loaves if you want to make give-aways or if your family eats less bread and you want to freeze a loaf and serve a loaf. Oh, and I almost forgot to mention, there is a nut or fruit dispenser for stirring in raisins, cranberries and the like at the proper time. No need to run in and add them during the cycle yourself.

I know, I know, you are salivating at this point and you haven't even baked your first loaf. What do you choose to make first? Cranberry nut tea bread? (no yeast), a jam out of the apricots from Mom's tree? We chose to make Spelt Bread first, because it is wheat free (though not, repeat NOT, gluten free. We can tolerate spelt but celiac sufferers cannot.) Spelt requires low kneading as the gluten of spelt falls apart with rough handling. The Breadman BK2000B employs the Gluten Free setting for spelt--as gluten free bread and spelt all require less kneading time on that part of the cycle.

But first, let's talk about the "OOBE" or out-of-box-experience. Here's what comes with the unit and what you receive:

1. The bread machine itself. It's large. Maybe 20 inches long (deep.) It's longer than it is wide and it's an attractive glossy black (won't show heat staining as white machines can do after time.) The controls are on the front of the top, push buttons, not the membrane type but actual buttons, with an LED display. The lid lifts back. There is a vent at the very back top for the heat. The top has a silver brushed trim. This is an attractive, serious-looking appliance.

The fruit/nut dispenser doubles as a vent. On top, in back, is a vented compartment. You lift it off, drop in your fruit or nuts, and then when the time comes during the dough cycle to stir in these additions, the bottom opens up to drop in the ingredients and then stays open to provide venting for the heat. A very clever design.

The cycles not only include sweet breads, whole wheat, gluten-free and low carb, but have quick cycles for some of the breads, in case you want to speed up your process. I was asked "why a bake-only" cycle; it's possible you might have a sourdough or a commercial dough, neither of which would go through any of the dough cycles but could be baked in the breadmaker nonetheless.

2. Comes with a measuring cup and a sliding measuring spoon for salt and yeast.

3. Three baking buckets; one long for the 2.5 lb and two of the smaller for 1 lbs.

4. The paddles (coated with non stick)

5. An instruction book. The book has the operating instructions on one side. Flip it over, and there is a recipe book including low carb and gluten free recipes, some from scratch with various non-gluten flours and one for standard gluten free bread mix as you can find in most grocery stores these days. The book is spiral-bound so it will stay open on your counter.

I made a standard white bread from the recipe book. It was a 2 lb loaf that rose up beautifully, but needed to be baked longer (the dark setting would be better.) I just added 10 minutes using the bake only cycle after the initial baking had ended. The collapsible paddles are only slightly good; one collapsed, one stuck in the loaf in the open position. I think soaking them before using, in a light vegetable oil might help in future. Will be testing this.

We made my standard spelt bread: recipe as follows:

1-1/4 cups boiling water with 1/4 cup oatmeal soaked in it until cooled (put in pan, let soak until lukewarm)
1/4 cup blackstrap molasses
2 Tbsp. melted butter
1 teaspoon salt
4 cups whole spelt flour
2-1/2 teaspoons bread machine yeast
optional; tbs golden flax seeds soaked with the oatmeal.

Bake on gluten free setting. Makes a 2lb loaf.

MELBA TOAST: If you have stale ends of bread, let's say an inch or three of the end of a loaf and you want to be thrifty yet make a new fresh loaf, take the stale bread and cut it 1/4 inch thick, then halve the slices. Butter them lightly, sprinkle with sesame seeds and bake at 475 F in your oven on a cookie sheet. This takes about 5-7 minutes or until golden brown and you CANNOT leave them unattended. Keep checking. When toasted, take carefully off the sheet immediately with a spatula. This is true Melba toast and it's really delicious. Serve with soups or breakfast with coffee or tea. Store leftovers (hahah) in a cookie tin.

This machine is really fantastic. We are so thrilled to be able to make our wheat-free breads. Will update this review with how it works for jam and for non-spelt, non-wheat flours, which we use less often. So far, I give this a huge thumbs up as it does EVERYTHING you need for baking.
*** UPDATE, NOV.2010. We use this almost daily. Only issue is that a small plastic peg used to hold the spring latch on the fruit/nut dispenser was defective and broken, so the dispenser doesn't work. Bad design to use a thin plastic peg to hold a screw. And would be a nuisance to have to pack the whole thing up and return for replacement, so we'll live with it. I still give this high marks.
