bigger is better,
By A Customer
This review is from: Breadman Plus TR810 2-Pound Horizontal Bread Machine (Kitchen)
The Breadman Plus TR810 is a real nice step up from the popular TR800 model, as it features a large 9-1/2 by 5 inch horizontal cast aluminum non-stick baking pan, with a 2-1/2 pound loaf capacity, and a pair of non-stick kneading blades. The twin kneading blades do a great job mixing ingredients and punching dough. Pizza dough is a snap, and it easily produces enough dough for a pair of 14 inch pizzas. The wide cast aluminum pan is sturdy and distributes the heat well. No tiny bread bucket here. It works just fine for 1-1/2 and 2 pound loaves, which are longer and more similar in size to premium commerical loaves of the same weight. There's plenty of extra headroom, for a mix that rises more than expected, and to make a larger than normal 2-1/2 pound loaf. You could not ask for a better way to produce great loaves of bread. The crust control is accurate and easy to use, as are the other LCD based controls, including the timer. Despite its 2-1/2 pound capacity, the well designed unit does not hog counter space. It is easy to clean and a delight to use, which means it will get used, again and again.

It's my secret.,

This review is from: Breadman Plus TR810 2-Pound Horizontal Bread Machine (Kitchen)
This machine consistently produces evenly-baked, nicely risen bread with a good texture. The crust control is a great feature. The horizontal loaves look like loaves baked in a traditional oven in a regular loaf pan. There are two mixing paddles in the bottom of the pan, which insures even mixing of the dough. Sometimes they get stuck in the loaf when you remove it from the pan, but they are easy to remove from the baked loaf. The bread machine comes with a recipe book which includes some new twists on older bread machine recipes, including one for Brioche bread which is out of this world! I like the 2 1/2 pound size because these loaves disappear so fast in my family. Bread machine or hand-made?? It's my secret!

I am so happy with this bread machine. It makes a standard loaf shape which is a real plus and the bread is perfect every time. The recipes that came with it are great and are much more detailed than the ones that came with my previous machine making for much more consistent results. You won't be disappointed with this machine!

Bakes too hot & loaf too dry,

Before buying the Breadman TR-810, I had a West Bend long horizontal bread machine for about 4 years. The West Bend was great and made perfect loaves time after time, but finally the gear underneath became too stripped to work properly (I was desperate...I took it apart to see if I could fix it...no, it's a specialty gear). I went looking for another West Bend, but all they make now is a tiny-loaf "Just for Dinner" model, which is useless. (West Bend should get with the program and make their award winning long horizontal bread machines once again.)Anyway, I researched many models, and only found two models that are long horizontal, with two kneading paddles: this Breadman model, and the Zojirushi. After reading the hit-or-miss reviews on the Zojirushi, and hearing horror stories about their customer service, I decided to go with the Breadman. I tried my favorite 50-50 wheat/white recipe in the Breadman, setting it on whole wheat rapid, 2-lb, medium crust. (The knead/rise/bake times for this cycle compared well to the old West Bend.) Before baking, the dough looked like it had great consistency (from my prior experience with the West Bend), and there was no dry flour residue on the pan. "Great", I thought. But I came back after it had finished baking, and lo and behold, it had fallen into itself (!) and was burnt crispy! Not wanting to give up easily, I tried again, checking the manual to see if I might have done something wrong with the recipe on this particular machine. The troubleshooting tips say that if it falls, use 2 oz. less liquid. Okay, this time I used 2 oz less water, and put it on the 2-lb, light setting. I came back about 10 minutes after it had finished the timer. (It's supposed to have a "keep warm" feature, but I think it's really a "keep cooking" 'feature'.) This time it was also burnt about the same amount, and the bread was hard on the outside, but at least the loaf didn't fall. I cut the edges off, but was able to eat the inside of the bread. It was too dry. Ugh. This machine is way too sensitive to changes in the wetness of the dough. In comparison, the West Bend had a HUGE tolerance range of dough conditions. Anyway, I tried once more with the Breadman, this time using 1.5-lb light setting. I also added another ounce of water (splitting the difference between the first "too-wet" loaf and the second "too dry" loaf.) This time, I took the loaf out 7 minutes EARLY (remember, it was on the smallest, lightest setting), and the pan sides of the bread were still all hard and dark, and the bread inside was still dry. I called the company and exchanged it under warranty (I was 1 day past the time when I could return it to the store). Just got the replacement machine. I tried something similar to the last loaf I tried before, using the 1.5-lb light setting again. Apparently it was too wet and fell again. However, I was watching the bake cycle very carefully. I pulled the loaf at 12 minutes EARLY. The done-ness, finally, appears good. So...in conclusion, the machine runs too hot (two TR-810 machines have been tested now) and it's very sensitive to the consistency of the dough. I don't like this machine. It's too bad there aren't any other choices for long horizontal loaves. I only have time to make bread once a week, so I need the long loaf to last the week. I can't buy store bought bread because I'm sensitive to the ingredients in them, so I'm out of luck. Guess I'll have to get a smaller loaf machine, and do without bread near the end of the week. Not sure what to do with this one...

I bought this version of the Breadman because of the other reviews on Amazon.com. I have had it about a month now and have baked all kinds of bread--some from mixes and some from scratch. The bread has been really delicious. Some of the problems--on light loaves, the paddles are stuck in the bottom. If you let the bread and the paddles cool before removing, they come out very easily without damaging the bread. On more dense loaves, they stayed in the pan. The Breadman is very quiet--it is even possible to have a conversation near the machine when it is beating the dough. The settings are simple and clear with plenty of choices. The loaf shape is an added bonus--the loaf looks really pretty when you take it out of the machine. I would gladly recommend The Breadman to anyone who wants to bake bread. Baking bread is harder than baking other things--I've had a few loaves that didn't exactly come out the way I wanted. They tasted great but had some flaw--like one side shorter than the other. Each time it was because of the way I put the ingredients in, not because of the machine. Expect to work with it a while before you get really great at all kinds of bread. This Breadman is very sturdy and well made and well worth the price. Anyone who buys it can expect some happy baking days!!

I love this bread machine. It's great having fresh made bread, and the Breadman Plus TR-810 makes it easier than you can imagine. Just put the stuff in the pan, hit the button, and a few hours later you have a fresh loaf of bread. The thing I liked about this model is that the loaf is baked in a horizotal pan, I like the "classic" loaf shape rather than the weird cylindrical loaves that come from vertical machines.Something I noticed about my machine, maybe this isn't common amongst other TR-810s, but mine runs a little hot. I found that moving it away from walls and cabinets helps, but I would still scorch loaves enough to make the crust really hard, even if they were set properly for a 2-lb whole grain loaf, for example. My solution: Everything is set to 1-lb, white, light crust, and since then any type of bread I've baked has turned out great. I haven't used it to make jam or pizza dough, because frankly .... I'm sure it would work fine for this, but at this point the only thing I don't have the patience for is kneading bread dough and remembering to punch it down once it's had time to rise. Thankfully the Breadman takes care of this for me. The best thing is my family can enjoy fresh, healthy bread made in my kitchen and I can spend the time doing other things. The reason I rated it 4 stars, however, is because the mixing paddles seemed to wear out pretty quickly. After about two months of use I started to see some wear in the hole that fits over the rotating pegs in the pan that hold them in place. They held out for about a year, and recently I've started noticing that my bread comes out uneven, or flat and hard. ... The bread pan is pretty decent. I had a couple of loaves stick pretty badly, but this was related to the scorching problem. When my mixing paddles were young, all loaves slid out with only a little shaking on my part. I found that if I let the bread cool, it would come out easier. As a previous review stated, I use a chopstick to pull out the paddles should they get stuck in the bread. I found that the paddles get stuck in the loaf about half the time, but they're easy to remove and don't affect the quality whatsoever. There are also other features which I find marginally useful, like the alarm for adding ingredients and the power interrupt feature so it doesn't forget where it was should you have a power failure in your home. The alarm I've needed only a handful of times but was glad to have it, and the interrupt feature proved useful when I accidentally unplugged the machine in the middle of a loaf. If you're on the fence about which bread machine to buy, know that you can buy this one with confidence. It has a lot of fancy bells and whistles which you probably won't use, but most importantly it makes a great loaf of bread. I'm a real cheap-o and never get an appliance like this without doing a lot of research beforehand. The Breadman Plus has exceeded my expectations.

Awesome machine which produces awesome results!!,

I love this machine. It works like a charm. I have only ever had one loave in which the paddles stuck in the bread. It has been such fun trying all of the different recipes that are included with the machine. My only word of caution would be to be certain to measure the ingredients with precision. Anyone who does can be assured of total success (accompanied by rave reviews!!)The breads that are made have an excellent texture and I love the elongated loaves. Even the jam feature produces high quality, 'fresh from the orchard' jams - with minimal effort! My only complaint, if you can call it that, is that the machine does not offer a 'rapid bake' option; however, that is quite a small concession to make for an otherwise perfect product!!

Used this machine quite a bit but the bread always sticks to the pan. Now I have ruined the pan and would like to replace it, but am unable to find anyplace where I can obtain the parts. I guess the purpose is for you to buy a new one instead. Will not buy another machine unless I am sure I can find realistically priced replacement parts. Otherwise have enjoyed the fresh bread, just need a really good recipe!

Poor Quality bread pan,
By Jennifer A Bird (Centennial, Colorado) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Breadman Plus TR810 2-Pound Horizontal Bread Machine (Kitchen)
I have owned this machine for 2 1/2 years. The paddles wear away at the non-stick coating aroung the spindle in the pan, also after several months use bread starts to stick to the pan and paddles. Machine is also noisy. I have purchased 3 additional bread pans and paddle sets in the 2 1/2 years (replacement pan is costly). The last set of pan and paddles I purchased lasted only 7 months, when I called customer service they told me the warrenty was only 3 months. There must be better machines than this on the market.

A Second Look,
By A Customer
This review is from: Breadman Plus TR810 2-Pound Horizontal Bread Machine (Kitchen)
This is my second time here.... as I said in my previous review, I was operating on my second machine which was sent to me (used) by Breadman when the first one failed. Well, the second one failed after only 8 uses and Breadman completely ignored my emails.. I even offered to buy another Breadman if they could tell me if there was a better and more reliable model. The only answer to that was that they said they would be happy to sell me another machine. My solution to this problem was to buy a Zojirushi. Much better. Less noise, better texture to the bread. |
