Product Description

Once you've used this dough whisk, you'll count it as one of your essential baking tools. It's perfect for mixing heavy dough prior to kneading. Way better than a spoon and much easier to clean. Sturdy and well made of a beechwood handle and stiff stainless steel wire head. Flow-through wire whisk design blends ingredients thoroughly and gently. Overall length: 15 1/4" Tip: Rinsing off dough with cold water works better than hot water. "I don't know how I got along without this! Mixing dough with a spoon or spatula was like slogging through quicksand, but this sturdy whisk just slices through. Its rounded shape makes it easy to scrape the sides of the bowl so everything is incorporated, and so little sticks to it that it's really easy to clean. Besides, it makes me feel "professional". Love it! Thanks for the great product and the great service!" Margaret, Ball Ground, GA "Yesterday the postman delivered the Danish Dough Whisk I ordered last week. So I immediately set about preparing a dough (which is now proofing after an 18 hour rise). It is truly a magic wand - so effective and so easy to clean. Thank you, Thank you!" Karil Rauss, Zurich

I actually remember something very similar to this in my grandmother's kitchen. She was Norwegian so the "Danish" approbation probably fits, but I suspect this tool was pretty common in a lot of european homes in the days before food processors and stand mixers. No one is going to confuse this thing with an All-Clad product as it's pretty rustic. My example actually came from Poland and the "stainless" steel looks a lot more like "mystery metal". In addition the wood handle isn't finished particularly well and probably shouldn't be left soaking in water after use.

So, after trashing this thing, why the 5 stars? Because it works very, very well. The tool head initially moves easily through the bread dough spinning the mixture back onto itself and as the mix stiffens the dough begins to ball up just like it's supposed to. A few more strokes and the dough ball has captured all the stray bits and pieces the same way a food processor does. Rinse it in cold water (just like the info says), put aside to wash later, cover your dough ball for a rest, and you're good to go. Simple and effective..... and it does look satisfyingly funky in the tool crock!

Just for clarification, the whisk I purchased came via amazon from Breadtopia. Whether other marketplace sellers supply exactly the same product is unknown.

I wondered if I was just impulse-buying another ultimately useless kitchen gadget, but it turns out to be one of my go-to tools for baking. A sturdy workhorse sort of whisk, it makes quick work of heavy batters and bread dough. Rinse promptly under the cold tap for easy cleanup.

I love to bake bread and I've been eyeballing one of these Danish dough hooks for a long time on sites such as Breadtopia. Now that I have used it I cannot believe I have gone this long without one!

This tool is so well made, it reminds me of something the Amish would make. It is one fine tool and it mixes thick dough in no time, saving time. The dough also comes together more smoothly and efficiently without dry patches of dough left sitting at the bottom of the bowl.

As far as one review here stating it to be too large, I do not have that problem at all with this whisk. It is sturdy and hefty, but I had no problem managing the size of the handle at all. Maybe for an elderly person with weak muscles?....
I would not have chosen a smaller size. This one is perfect for me.

It's also very easy to clean compared to using a spoon or other tool. You won't be sorry...

Update July 16, 2014:

Years later and I have to say it would be difficult for me to give up my Danish Dough Whisk. It's great for stirring thickish sticky batters, bread baking, and also great for mixing meatloaf thoroughly without having to over mix it!
I purchased another brand for my daughter and it's not nearly as nice as this one. Smaller too. This larger size is what you need to get the job done easily! I also like that the outside round wire will scrape the bottom of the bowl to insure that every bit of loose flour is captures. Great tool!

I was surprised at how nicely this works. Dough doesn't stick to it at all and it is much easier to clean that a spoon. Vendor delivered on time.

I wasn't too certain that I needed another kitchen product but these always looked so helpful in demos that I broke down. This device must be the best kept secret in bread baking. Although I have a Kitchen Aide mixer to work "difficult" dough it hasn't been used since I bought this item. Not only does it mix dough easier and better than the K.A., it also cleans up faster. Three cheers to the Dane that invented my favorite tool !

The whisk idea is a good one, however I would like to see it smaller. It is larger than I would have bought if I had seen it in a store. I am working with it and as long as there is a lot of dough (2-3 loaves worth) in the bowl, it works fine. Dough does get stuck in the cross areas at the base and it is difficult to get clean.

I thought it'd be better than getting my hands dirty. Well, a year or so later, and many hundreds of loafs later, I love this thing. It's much easier to both mix and clean than using a wooden spoon, and dough comes right off of it.

I absolutely love this whisk. I make bread several times a month. Everyone kept telling me to get a bread machine but I don't have the space for one. This whisk plus a large bowl and I'm good to go. Plus when we have company over and I'm making bread everyone is interested in the whisk. I'm still waiting on getting the large bucket and the 5 minute bread book, but one day I will try this whisk with those recipes.
