The Mix Queen,
By Michael Kerner "Michael Kerner" (Brooklyn, New York U.S.A.) - See all my reviews (HALL OF FAME REVIEWER) (VINE VOICE)
This review is from: Un-Break My Heart: The Remix Collection (Audio CD)
There are just so many artists out there that use the power of remixes for their songs to make them even better onto the music scene. That does go around quite well, but other times it just can be too much for any musical act. It has had its faults for acts like Destiny's Child, Jennifer Lopez and so many musical icons. Toni Braxton is another perfectional example. Unlike Mariah Carey or Britney Spears, Toni's voice has definitely been a lot more focused than manufactured woth her remixes. That isn't a bad thing, but when there happens to be a remix collection of your songs, some just seem to wonder.
Un-Break My Heart: The Remix Collection, is a collection of remixes of Toni Braxton's well-received tracks from her work with Arista & LaFace records in the 1990's. The songs here on this collection seem to be a little bit more repititious, and replayed, rather than showing a bit more widely detailed versions of her tracks. Considering that the collection does feature remixed versions of some of her great tracks like Un-Break My Heart, You're Makin' Me High, Hit The Freeway, and Spanish Guitar. The songs here are good, but there just could've been a little more variety here on this album rather than only a few songs remixed more than once. Especially where other good songs like Another Sad Love Song, Breathe Again, and Just Be A Man About It weren't even featured in remixed versions on this collection at all. All in all, Toni Braxton still has some great pop songs here remixed well, but I was just expecting a little bit more here on this collection. This is fine as a novelty for any die hard Toni Braxton fan, but others might just want to void this package and consider the 2003 Ultimate Toni Braxton. i wholeheartedly agree with everyone who would have wanted 2 discs with all the full length versions. It's also too bad the eddie baez mix of "I Don't Want To" wasn't used for this continuous mix. For collectors of long versions, here's how the times pan out:
1. intro (1:18) 2. Un-break My Heart (5:51) 3. Spanish Guitar (7:48) 4. You're Makin Me High (8:17) 5. I Don't Want To (7:32) 6. Hit The Freeway (4:26) 7. He Wasn't Man Enough (6:38) 8. He Wasn't Man Enough (3:45) 9. Maybe (4:20) 10. Un-break My Heart (8:28) 11. Spanish Guitar (6:22)

Toni Braxton's Sexy Songs finally turn into Dance Hits,
By Lil' Radio (Chi-Town, Illinois) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Un-Break My Heart: The Remix Collection (Audio CD)
this is a hot cd. i love all of the songs and the most of the mixes are pretty long. this cd's also made into a non-stop mix. my five favorites are "Un-Break My Heart(Soul Hex Anthem Mix)," "Spanish Guitar(HQ2 Mix)," "Maybe(HQ2/Dynamix Mix)," "Spanish Guitar(Joe Claussell Mix)," and "You're Makin' Me High (David Morales Mix)." i remember hearing the soul hex mix for un-break my heart many years ago on the radio and i always wanted to own it. this cd is definitely for dance lovers out there.
