I wanted to wait a couple of weeks before writing this review, so all of the songs could sink in. I hate when people write a review after listening to an album once or twice. As it stands right now, I've probably listened to this CD all the way through 15 times. Pretty much every day since it came out. This is a fantastic album. I absolutely loved "Leave This Town", so I won't say that this album is better, but it's definitely in the same league anyway. Daughtry gets a lot of flack for putting out your standard "Verse, Chorus, Verse, Bridge, Verse" kind of song. I don't see what's wrong with that, as long as the music and content of the songs are good. It's not like this is bubble gum pop without any meaning or soul. These songs are deep, catchy, and fun to listen to. Anyone who criticizes this album for being too plain needs to get the rod out of their butthole. Standout songs for me on the album are: Renegade, Crawling Back To You, Outta My Head, Start of Something Good, Break The Spell, We're Not Gonna Fall, and Spaceship. I just realized I put 7 of the 12 songs on my "Standout" songs, lol. Yes, it's THAT good of an album. My only beef with this is the "Deluxe" version of the album. The songs that didn't make the cut aren't very good. "Leave This Town" had several B-Sides that were actually better than most of the songs on the album. But these B-Sides stink, and aren't even worth listening to. As big of a Daughtry fan as I am, I have to say that the extra songs are pretty bad. I don't want to end this review on a down note. This is a GREAT album, and I urge you to BUY this album! Yes, BUY it. Chris Daughtry is a good dude, and I felt very comfortable buying 2 copies of this CD and putting some money in his pocket.

I'm a pretty hardcore Daughtry fan, and so far, I'm disappointed with this album. There are a few songs that may grow on me in time, but overall, I'm not really feeling it the way I did with the past two. There's no real stand out on this album. I agree with some of the critics that they're becoming formulaic and need to really shake things up next time so they don't start writing canned tunes. It's not a terrible album, and like I said, some of it may grow on me, but it's not up to their usual standards.

Daughtry doing what they do best!,

Daughtry's new album, Break The Spell, has been released today. I ordered a copy from the band's website and just got it in the mail this morning. The album is more of the melodic rock that the band is known for. This one is their most upbeat yet. I love hearing how the band has evolved and are growing into their own sound. Some of my favorite tracks are: Start of Something Good, Gone Too Soon, Losing My Mind, Rescue Me, Louder Than Ever, Spaceship, Everything But Me (bonus track). Overall, it's my favorite album yet by the band.

A masterpiece,
This review is from: Break The Spell (Deluxe Version) (Audio CD)
Daughtry have done it again, there's not a single bad track on this album, almost no rockers except "Renegade" but that's not a bad thing, Chris Daughtry's voice and writing skills have matured a lot, a song that really shows that is "Gone too soon" which talks about a miscarriage, one of the most emotional songs i've heard in a while.Overall an amazing album that I can't get enough of!

DAUGHTRY - BREAK THE SPELL - DELUXE EDITIONDaughtry graces us once again with a mix of some of the best of the best songs I've heard in a long time. This long-awaited CD has something for everybody on it. My favorites are CRAWLING BACK TO YOU, GONE TOO SOON, RESCUE ME, and LULLABY. Chris Daughtry's voice sings no song wrong. The music is sharp and focused. Vocals are rich and strong. Lyrics are meaningful and ring true. This CD does not disappoint -- not one little bit. I will never ever forget the look on Daughtry's face when he was voted off IDOL. Chris -- look at you now! BRAVO! BRAVO! Highly recommended for all -- Thank you. Pam

Break the Spell review.1. Renegade; the opening track of Daughtry's new album wakes you up and starts you head banging. This is the biggest rock song on Daughtry's album. 2. Crawling Back to You; I've been a fan of this song since I heard it live during a concert (which was on YouTube) - The song just proved Daughtry has a strong voice. It's easily one of Daughtry's best singles. 3. Outta My Head; completely different than I was expecting. I thought it would be a song like Over You but it's more among the lines of What I Want. It's a brilliant track. 4. Start of Something Good; What Chris calls his first true love song. It's amazing. The lyrics actually stand out. This is a great pop ballad song. 5. Crazy; This is one of my favorite songs on the album, from Chris' falsetto to the amazing lyrics. This song will get you dancing. 6. Break the Spell; What an amazing song, I wasn't sure if this was going to be good or not. You couldn't tell with the thirty second preview, but the song actually proves to me that you shouldn't even think Daughtry will be bad. 7. We're Not Gonna Fall; The best song on the album IMO. The lyrics are amazing, I love the Augustana vibe to it. It's Daughtry down to the D. You can't get better. 8. Gone Too Soon; The emotional ballad about losing a loved one. It's beautifully sung. A tear jerker song for sure. 9. Losing My Mind; This instantly stood out to me for Daughtry to have as the third single from the album. Another song that showcases Chris' falsetto. Brilliant song, brilliant lyrics and I'm sure this will be the fan favorite. 10. Rescue Me; The country-styled pop ballad, This showcases Chris' amazing talent for acoustic songs. Another top notch song from the rock band. 11. Louder than Ever; I think this song has an 80's vibe. It might be my least favorite song on the standard edition but I still think it's a great song which I will more than likely listen to more than once in a day. 12. Spaceship; Oh man. This song is amazing. The lyrics was not what I was expecting, I was expecting a song about being an alien. This song is about losing the girl you love and can't happen to find her. It's amazing. A song that I will listen to repeatedly. - BONUS TRACKS - 13. Who's They; First time I read the title for this song, I thought it was a spelling mistake and thought it was meant to say `Who's There' - This quite an amazing song, I can understand why it's a bonus track though. I think it would have been weak on the standard edition but it's amazing as bonus track. 14. Maybe We're Already Gone; This is my least favorite song on the album. It's amazing though. Great lyrics, great song but it's not surprising it's a bonus track. It's more of a B-Side than a single. 15. Everything But Me; WHY IS THIS A BONUS TRACK? This song is genius, easily one of the best songs on the album. Beautiful lyrics, great vocals. Perfect song. 16. Lullaby; A song to his babies, what a nice warm hearted way to end the album, this song is a slow acoustic song which would fit perfectly with [the] Plain White T's. It's a very nice song.

Underwhelming in comparison to "Leave this Town", but still a great album.,

I have been a fan since the start. I loved their debut, but felt that "Leave this town" was a much better album than their self-titled debut. This album certainly feels like a few steps back.Where "Leave this town" did not have a single skippable track, this one has several. "Leave this town" also had around 6+ excellent bonus tracks, all of which would have been better than several of the songs on "Break the spell". Now, for the album. Renegade - 8/10 - A great, hard, opening track with a very catchy chorus. Crawling back to you - 7.5/10 - One of Daughtry's weaker power ballads, which makes it a surprise that it was chosen as the first single. The verse's are the strong suit for this song, as the chorus is not particularly catchy. Outta my head - 8/10 - I was initially VERY turned off by this very different sound for Daughtry, but since giving the song a chance, I have really warmed up to it. Very catchy with a funky groove. Very different for Daughtry on this one. Start of something good - 10/10 - This is easily the best Country tinted Rock Ballad yet from Daughtry(This one is similar to "Home" than "Tennessee Line"). The Chorus is extremely catchy, this song is just perfect in every single way. This needs to be their next single. Crazy - 10/10 - If only every song on the album was this good. Catchy is an understatement. These are the kinds of songs that Daughtry is the master of. Break the Spell - 8.5 - A great song. Great, Catchy chorus. We're not gonna fall - 6/10 - The first true misstep of this album. Power ballads used to be Daughtry's specialty. This song is nothing special lyrically, and is not catchy in the least. Gone too soon - 10/10 - Beautiful song that Chris wrote for a friend who was going through the grief of a miscarriage, at the same time that his twins were born. This is very emotional song that will hit home for many people out there. 7/10 - Losing my mind - This song has a catchy chorus, but is leaning too far into the "Pop" genre for my taste. I like this song, but I would not advise Daughtry to go any further into the "Pop" genre than this song right here. Rescue me - 5.5/10 - The second true misstep of this album. This song has a very generic sound to it, and is not catchy in the least. Louder than ever - 9.5/10 - Love this song. This is the perfect song to listen to while driving on the interstate, with the windows rolled down! Catchy is an understatement. This would be a great summer single! Spaceship - 10/10 - Easily one of my favorites. Beautiful song, that has a taste of Nostalgia, and an almost surreal feel to it. Very catchy. LOVE this song! Bonus Tracks Who's they - 10/10 - When a bonus track is one of the best songs on the album, it makes it even more disappointing that "certain" songs made the final cut. This is a phenomenal song. Very well written, with a unique setup(It is basically 2 verse's, and then a bridge). The entire first half has a darker sound to it, though it is slower. Then, almost to the 2 minute mark, the song hits into a bridge that is some very hard material coming from Daughtry. This song should have made the cut, no doubt. Maybe We're already gone - 9/10 - Another song that should have made the cut. A great song with a very catchy chorus. Everything but me - 7.5/10 - Not my favorite song, though I think this should have made the cut over several songs that did end up making the cut. Lullaby - Undetermined - I cannot really give this one a definitive critique, as I have not given it enough airtime. It is a very raw recording, unedited, acoustic ballad. Just Chris and his guitar. Conclusion : This album is definitely nowhere near as good as "Leave this town", and I am to be honest not sure I would rate it as high as "Daughtry", either. While this album is a step in the wrong direction, it is still a very good album, with a few major missteps, and a few phenomenal standouts. Standouts: Start of something good Crazy Gone too soon Spaceship Who's They Major Missteps: We're not gonna fall Rescue me Overall, still a great album from Daughtry that I would definitely recommend to any Daughtry/Rock fan.

Great album! Have listened to it non-stop for the past couple of days! I have purchased all of their albums and I can say I wasn't disappointed in this one either. I don't think there's one song on the entire cd I don't like! That's unusual....for any cd!
