5.0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected, but exactly what I needed
I originally picked this book up just before I ended a four year relationship. I originally bought it with the intention of giving it to my then boyfriend, but ended up reading it and keeping it for myself. Even though I broke up with said boyfriend, I learned a lot from the book.

This book is not so much about how to "fix" relationships as it is to learn...

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't Waste Your Money!
The book discusses how wonderful it will be when you finally get "real" but it doesn't explain how to get there. Buyer beware! There are better books out there.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected, but exactly what I needed, September 11, 2006
This review is from: Break Up or Break Through (Paperback)
I originally picked this book up just before I ended a four year relationship. I originally bought it with the intention of giving it to my then boyfriend, but ended up reading it and keeping it for myself. Even though I broke up with said boyfriend, I learned a lot from the book.

This book is not so much about how to "fix" relationships as it is to learn how to make personal growth and healing a part of your relationships. The author's position -- and I'm inclined to concur -- is that in doing so, one's relationships will also grow, heal, and become more resilient and flexible.

The author spends a great deal of time talking about setting up and honoring boundaries, facing fears rather than projecting them onto the relationship, and understanding when a relationship is not about "the relationship," but about something that one or one's partner is struggling to work through on their own. She also stresses the importance of letting your partner work out their own problems and giving them an understanding ear rather than taking on the job of solving their problems.

This book is not for the person who wants a quick band-aid for their relationship. Instead, it is for the person who wants to become more self-aware and true to their innermost being, both when they're alone and when they're sharing their loves with someone else.

5.0 out of 5 stars Break Up or Break Through, October 13, 2004
This review is from: Break Up or Break Through (Paperback)
I loved this book. It is no-nonsense plain talk about being REAL as opposed to be "good" or "perfect" for someone else. Her words ring true and her exercises promote self-awareness, the first step in self-acceptance. I am a stronger person in a better relationship for having read it. Pick it up and browse through it in the bookstore. You'll probably take it home and be very glad you did!

4.0 out of 5 stars relationships from a spiritual perspective. helpful for anyone., August 19, 2008
This review is from: Break Up or Break Through (Paperback)
This book is apparently written with the gay community in mind, but it is applicable to anyone. Insightful ways of looking at yourself in relationships, interesting questionnaires, and it definitely has a lot to offer for anyone looking for a way to let go of fear and create deeper, transformative and fulfilling relationships.

This review is from: Break Up or Break Through (Paperback)
I ordered this book for my relative after my pastor suggested my mate and I read it however after two emails to the company I bought it from advising I mistakenly left off the apartment number to my relative address I received a short response back stating it was too late to add the apartment number because the item had been shipped out on the second day after placing the order therefore my relative never received the item and the tracking number given never was located through USPS.

thanks for nothing
