Dark secrets are revealed.,
By
This review is from: Break of Dawn (Vampire Babylon) (Mass Market Paperback)
The Elite class vampires have been recalled to the `Underground'. Their secret society is known, and an attack is feared.
Limpet and Associates are on lockdown and going a bit stir crazy. Is this the end? Should she just leave? To convince her to stay Kiko brings her on a vision with a dagger. The vision is disturbing. Men worse than beasts and monsters. Dawn Madison is more than just strong. Her mind has the ability to push things and protect her, and she is getting stronger. Jonah considers her dispensable. All this time he has been using her as bait to draw out the Master, or in his human looking form, Matt Lonigan, a man Dawn has feelings towards. Frank Morgan is a vampire, and held hostage by his vampire and deceased wife Eva Claremont, and Dawn's mother in her attempt to reunite the family without Breisi. The only way to return him to his human state is to kill her mother. Can she do it? Which side is Eva on? More likely her own, but if the Master who is infatuated with both women, finds out, will he destroy her? Is anybody safe from his wrath and his continuing decline into insanity? Jonah Limpet reveals another secret. Another entity, The Voice, lives in him. Costin, an evil vampire, is after his sovereign who turned them. If he, the Dragon, should rise again, it would be Armageddon. Can humanity be saved? Break of Dawn by Chris Marie Green is a fast, easy read, with few details, however the characters will stay in your memory long after you've read the story. I would rank this story a four because it relies on events happening in the previous two books to propel the story forward.

An excellent urban fantasy with a very different love story!,

This review is from: Break of Dawn: Vampire Babylon, Book Three (Mass Market Paperback)
"Break of Dawn" is a great end to Chris Marie Green's first story arc within the Vampire Babylon series. This reader would suggest first reading Night Rising and Midnight Reign in order to get a full understanding of the story line.
Dawn's life as a stuntwoman is but a memory. Her main focus now is to save her father and help "The Voice" conquer the master of LA's underground vampire nest. Oh, and another item high on Dawn's list of priorities is getting revenge on her "undead" mother! (Oh dear! Mama Drama!) Dawn's on a rampage and the development of her newly acquired skills makes her one tough vampire hunter! But she's stubborn too. She's determined to figure out "The Voice". She won't give up until she is able to find out who and/or what he is. The unfortunate side to this determination? Dawn may find out that too much information just may force too many choices that she is not necessarily ready to make. One vampire master is vanquished, many questions are answered and relationships further developed. But, as per the post script, the journey to Dawn and Costin's ultimate goal is still quote the adventure to be had! An excellent urban fantasy with a very different love story. If you've ever wondered about "spirit" sex, Chris Marie Green does a great job of portraying the "out of body" sexual experience. As with the previous two installments, readers will be kept feverishly turning the pages!

What I really have to say about this book is READ, READ, READ! This series was so much more than I was expecting, and I can't wait to see how it grows! Dawn goes from a Hollywood stuntwoman to a vampire slayer all within the course of a maybe a week because her father has disappeared. You'll may never see the ending that is coming, but you'll love the characters and all the action!!

powerful urban fantasy,
This review is from: Break of Dawn (Vampire Babylon) (Mass Market Paperback)
Deep below the paved streets of Los Angeles lies the lair of master vampire Beneditke. There they wait living the life of luxury while biding time before coming above ground as performers as they were in a previous life thanks to plastic surgery helping them modify their appearances. Eva, once the Master's favorite, kidnapped her husband Frank and turned him into a vampire while their daughter Dawn Madison has become Beneditke's new obsession.
Jonah's mission is to destroy the Undergrounds and their Masters, but Dawn has misgivings whether she can trust him any longer. Unknowingly she is already attached to the Master who is wearing a human guise. A betrayal forces Dawnawn out of her refuge at Jonah's hiding place while her mom and another vampire trick her into going to the Underground. Circumstances put Eva Dawn in a tenuous spot regarding Dawn, but she eventually helps her daughter escape. Dawn returns to Jonah, who has located the underground and intends to kill all its monstrous occupants. Dawn feels pulled in two directions, but must choose which side she is on. This ends the Vampire Babylon trilogy (see MIDNIGHT REIGN and NIGH RISING), but though complete also sets the stage for a second set of novels in the urban fantasy saga. Chris Marie Green has written a powerful character driven thriller that keeps the audience riveted from start to finish with a need to know what happens next as there is always a shocker every few chapters. The reason this tale and its predecessors are so good is the belief that vampires live in and under Los Angeles and in this case the Underground seems like a real place based on a different perspective of the vampiric mythos. However, from the first page of the first novel to the climax of BREAK OF DAWN, the heroine with her trials and tribulations makes this trilogy well worth reading. Harriet Klausner |
