5.0 out of 5 stars Dangerous Mix of Romance
I enjoyed the latest book in the Hideaway series. Breakaway by Rochelle Alers has the right mixture of romance and suspense. From the moment Gavin meets Celia, I knew these two would be an interesting couple to read about. Their story kept me glued to the pages.

Breakaway was a quick fast read for me.

2.0 out of 5 stars Didn't Really Get It, June 28, 2010

I liked that the story had the promise of a good page turner especially in the beginning, but that was pretty much it for the plot except until the end of the book when we were told what happened. It was very anticlimatic. There was no substantial reason for them to get "married" either. I also didn't get the nuances of a lot of their conversations--the anger, upset, sarcasm, etc. That didn't come across well. I've read other books by this author and those have been better.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Comeback for Hideaway Series, May 14, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I love the Hideaway series. This new story of Gavin and Celia reminded me of what I loved so much about the entire series. Gavin and Celia had great chemistry. I enjoyed the dialogue between the two and the way Gavin fell in love with Celia. Gavin being the perfect alpha male kept the story intresting for me. There were a few details given in the story that never connected back to the plot (i.e. Yale's child) that kept this book from being a 5 stars in my book. Overall, this is a wonderful story and I can't wait for the next book in the series.

4.0 out of 5 stars GOOD ADDITION TO THE HIDEAWAY SERIES!, May 10, 2010
This review is from: Breakaway (Arabesque) (Mass Market Paperback)
Could not wait to read this book! I'm a big fan of Rochelle Alers and the Hideaway series. My favorite heroes are from her books Merrick Grayslake (Stranger In My Arms) and Sheldon Blackstone (Beyond Business) Loved the chemistry between Celia & Gavin. There coming together was little quick and somewhate unbeliveable but did not take away from the story. It was great to catch up with the Blackstones of Virginia and I can't wait for Nicholas and Peyton's story. This story is a good addition to the Hideaway series. Well done Ms. Alers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Doesnt Disappoint, May 6, 2010
This review is from: Breakaway (Arabesque) (Mass Market Paperback)
I loved this book. I am a huge fan of Rochelle Alers and her Hideaway series and once again the latest installment does not disappoint. It was a good thing to see that Celia Cole-Thomas got her own story because we were introduced to her in Secret Agenda and I always felt that her relationship with Yale wouldn't last for some reason. Gavin proves to be a great balance for Celia and the story carries on nicely. If you are a fan of Alers and her Hideaway series this book will not disappoint.

Rating: 4.5
Another long awaiting Hideaway book. I tell they keep getting better and better. It is always good to read about them COLES. With another great book under her belt Rochelle has given us another Cole and Celia is every bit of a Cole.

Dr. Celia Cole Thomas is sister of Diego and her story center around the Emergency Room during her shift something happen where it change her entire life. Celia has taken a leave of absence from the hospital after the accident and has decided she needs a change of pace and location so she head to her house in North Carolina.

Gavin Faulkner is an FBI agent on is being sent on assignment in North Carolina to track down a killer by the name of Roy Perkins. While in North Carolina Gavin make himself comfort in the cabinet. He decides to go the grocery store and there is where he met Celia.

Celia is Nancy's granddaughter and let me tell you if you all remember Nancy in the earlier books then you know what I am talking about. Celia has her grand mother mouth and wit, but Gavin is just the man for her. Gavin holds his own with Celia.

You will also notice Celia mention a cousin and his name is Nathaniel Mitchell if you want to learn more about Nathaniel you can read his love story in "More Than Words" this is a book that Harlequin put out every year with about 4 to 6 different authors who contributor a story to real life heroines to there respective charities. Rochelle was one of the contributor authors this year and her story was about Nathanial & Kendra. I recommend this book for several reason, 1. You get another related Cole story, 2. It's a great second chance love story.

You are going to love this couple. I recommend this book it is good.

4.0 out of 5 stars Breakaway, May 9, 2010

Rochelle Alers is back with a new story from her popular Hideaway series. Fans of her long time work are reunited with the Cole family. It's like visiting old friends.

Celia Cole-Thomas is a Miami E.R. doctor who is running from a traumatic experience. After being shot by a ruthless gang member during her shift one night, Celia is shaken to the core. She had to endure the trauma of watching her fiancé (another E.R. doctor) and several colleagues die. A year later she is still having nightmares of the fatal night. Determined to move on from her past and maintain her sanity, she packs up to take a vacation in the Smoky Mountains of North Carolina. While enjoying her must needed R& R, she meets Gavin Faulkner and all of the emotions that she thought were long buried resurface.

Gavin Faulkner is a hot undercover FBI agent. He's on the fast track in the bureau, making his way as one of the top field agents ever. The thing is that he no longer wants that lifestyle, in fact, after his current assignment he plans to take a desk job and settle down. Sent to the mountains of North Carolina to bring in another undercover agent, who is so much more to Gavin than just that, Gavin never expected to have such a strong attraction with Celia in the local grocery store.

While driving home from their initial encounter, Gavin rescues a hurt puppy. Celia spots him on the road and immediately jumps in to help him. Together they repair the dog until they can get him to the vet and slowly learn more about each other. I thought it was real cute that they both were invested emotionally in "Terry" the dog. As Gavin and Celia settle into their roles as lovers, danger is never far away and Gavin makes a promise to Celia to protect her from any gang members who might still be out to hurt her before she testifies later that summer. But Gavin has more to deal with when he learns that his assignment might be linked to Celia and her case.

There were several things that took away from this book in my opinion. The first being that Celia was suppose to be this hard shelled woman with a soft inside but I felt she was hard all of the time. The only time I got to really see her let loose was during the love scenes, which was hot. She was not relatable enough for me and she did not gel as well with Gavin's down to earth personality as I would have liked. Second, there was no action in the story. Sure the readers know that danger is lurking. There's a robbery and other small mentions of something happening but there was no drama. Last I did not like that their relationship progressed so fast towards the end and the only excuse was this is for the case which did not tie neatly into the story.

Even with those details, I still manage to enjoy Breakaway. There were several other characters introduced from her hideaway series and even her Blackstone series. Of course, being a fan my self of Rochelle Alers, I do look forward to other stories in her Hideaway series

I started this book last night around 7:30 pm and finished it this morning. Rochelle Alers has done it again. This story kept my interest from the first page to the last page. I loved the way she put together her story lines. I can't wait for the next one to come out. Keep up the good work.

2.0 out of 5 stars Expecting a little more., June 13, 2011
This review is from: Breakaway (Arabesque) (Mass Market Paperback)
I am a huge Rochelle Alers fan, and I'm shocked at this book. There was no plot, the book was just a summary of a model's, Butterfly, life. The usual spark of romantic interest and slight twist at the end was missing from this novel. The book went on and on about how Butterfly was SO exotic, SO pretty, SO one of a kind. None of the characters were particularly dynamic or interesting. I'm glad I rented this from the library because I would have wanted my money back.
