Art Garfunkel's "Breakaway" from the best 60's duo,

One of the 60's and 70's silken male voices. The mid-70"s was a neverending string of middle of the road classics. Romance and disco filled the air (waves) with hope and possibility. "Breakaway" was one of those LP's that went on like a Rachmaninov symphony. Each song blended into the next (and not like mindless muzac). But rather like melodic lullabies you want to forever memorize. "I Believe (When I Fall In Love It Will Be Forever)" and "I Only Have Eyes For You" are always acknowleged as the two great tunes on this LP. However, the one I thought that really deserved the prize was "99 Miles From L.A.," one of Albert Hammond's best efforts. "Breakaway" is a great tune. "Disney Girls" and "My Little Town" also quickly caught my ear. It was a great surprise this CD available and great to hear it again, only this time on CD.

LUSH PERFECT POP,

With his impossibly high pop tenor voice, Art Garfunkel found his best solo material ever on this collection of gorgeously arranged pop songs. Stevie Wonder's I BELIEVE... is simply jaw-dropping; THE WATERS OF MARCH has a kicky, memorable poetic lilt; MY LITTLE TOWN still stands the test of time as Simon and Garfunkel's cryptically brilliant "comeback" duet. There is no clunker on this album, and it is arranged with an orchestral feel that sounds instantly classic. With melodies like these, and with an angelic voice like Art's to steer the course, it is no wonder this album has remained one of my all-time favorites from the 70s through today.

Artie's Best Solo Effort.,

This review is from: Breakaway (Audio CD)
This 1975 album remains Art Garfunkel's most consistent and best-selling one, thanks to the lush Richard Perry production and strong song selections like the Stevie Wonder-penned "I Believe(When I Fall In Love It Will Be Forever)",the Beach Boys "Disney Girls","99 Miles From L.A",and the Top 40 hits "Breakaway","I Only Have Eyes For You",and the Simon & Garfunkel reuion "My Little Town".Artie's beautiful tenor voice suits all the tracks perfectly and makes for gorgeous listening. No Art Garfunkel fan's collection(or anybody else's)is complete without this CD.

Wonderful "mellow" music,

This is one of my very favorite albums from the 1970s and I'm thrilled that it's on CD! It was specifically made as a "mellow" album and no upbeat songs are included. His remake of "I Only Have Eyes For You" is my favorite version of that song, and the other tracks are wonderful, too!

One of the Best,

This is one of my favorite c.d.'s. I really think Art is at his best here. All of the songs are keepers, not one disturbs the mood. From the winsome Rag Doll to the haunting yearning feel of 99 Miles from L.A., each takes you somewhere...Art puts a new spin on an old standard in I Only Have Eyes for You. Much better than the original, it's "our favorite slow dance/make out song". Yea, we've been married 16 years now, but when Art sings we're still dating.

Richard Perry brings out the best in Art Garfunkel,
By A Customer
This review is from: Breakaway (Audio CD)
A step up from 1973's "Angel Clare" (which was co-produced by Art Garfunkel and Roy Halee), this 1975 LP is led by the guiding hand of Richard Perry, who filled it with ballads containing lush orchestral arrangements, perfect for Garfunkel's mellow style and ranging vocal abilities. Especially notable on this album are the songs "I Believe," "Disney Girls," "I Only Have Eyes For You," "99 Miles From L.A.," and a beautiful song to wrap up this effort, "The Same Old Tears On A New Background." Although Art didn't have the same amount of commercial success as his longtime partner, Paul Simon, this CD is definitely worth a listen, as there isn't a bad song on it.

BUY THIS CD! This album takes me back 24 years, when I lived in New Orleans. I played the grooves off it then! The songs are at once catchy and memorable. From the evocative and jazzy "Waters of March", to his heart soaring rendition of "I Believe When I Fall in Love", this album is a timeless keeper! I never tire of the songs, or of Mr. Garfunkel's superior and distinctive voice.Recipe for happiness:Put this cd on, grab your lover, light some candles, and pop open a bottle of wine.Perfection....

I Believe,

This album, produced by Richard Perry (Barbra Streisand, Ringo Starr, Carly Simon, The Pointer Sisters, Andy Williams, Johnny Mathis, etc.) surrounded Art Garfunkel's celestial voice with some superb musicians (David Crosby, Graham Nash, Bill Payne from Little Feat, Stephen Bishop, Toni Tennille, Steve Cropper from Booker T. & the MG's, Joe Osborn, Russ Kunkel, and Andrew Gold), all part of a stellar cast bringing this music to life. Songwriters like Antonio Carlos Jobim, Stephen Bishop, Stevie Wonder, Gallagher & Lyle, Bruce Johnston, Al Dubin & Harry Warren provide words and melodies that very much complement his one of a kind voice. "I Only Have Eyes For You" is originally from the 1934 film, "Dames" and thanks to Andrew Gold's excellent musicianship and Stephen Bishop's backing vocals throughout (and especially on the fade), they help create a new and simply gorgeous version of this song. Art Garfunkel brings Hal David's vivid imagery to life on "99 Miles From LA". "Rag Doll", "Breakaway" and "I Believe" are all highlights, too. Considering that this album was recorded in London, New York and Los Angeles, it is a testament to the talents of Richard Perry that this album manages to keep one of the greatest voices of our time the focal point. It will make you believe!

After practically growing up listening to this album, this was a MUST for my CD collection and what a difference the CD makes to clarify every breath, note and tune delivered so brilliantly by such a beautiful vocalist. The music is timeless and will be enjoyed forever. "I Only Have Eyes For You" is the most gorgeous rendition you will ever hear. This CD is a must for any POP or EASY LISTENING fan. --Ji
