Raw and unpolished metal,
By
This review is from: Breaker (Audio CD)
This is the first album from Accept that is good all the way. It is unpolished and raw heavy metal with a singer (Udo Dirkscneider) that has a lot more in common with Lemmy from Motorhead than Ian Gillan (Deep Purple) or David Coverdale (Whitesnake). With "Breaker" (1981), Accept managed to write songs in traditional heavy metal fashion, like "Breaker" and "Son of a bitch", melodic and catchy tunes like "Midnight highway" and "Run if you can", rock `n' roll inspired numbers such as "Burning", and a beautiful acoustic ballad by the name of "Breaking up again" which also shows us that Mr. Dirkschneider actually can sing. I strongly advise any fan of Accept and traditional heavy metal to get this album. Some say (wrongly) that Accept got commercialized a couple of years later when they released "Metal heart" and "Russian roulette", but no one can say that "Breaker" isn't a honest metal album worthy of your respect.

BREAKER (1981)
Thier first two albums i thought were pretty basic sounding with no real meat to them, but their third album BREAKER had a ton of really powerful and heavy tunes. I feel that this was where the classic Accept sound really started to develope. Songs like STARLIGHT, BREAKER, RUN IF YOU CAN, MIDNIGHT HIGHWAY and DOWN AND OUT all have that classic accept "crunch" courtesty of MR Woff Hoffmann. This is really heavy music for 1981, with the exeption of Iron Maiden's KILLERS album and Venom's WELCOME TO HELL (also released in 81), there was nothing really this agressive or crunchie back then. this came out in the pre-thrash pre-death pre-black metal days when you had bands like Judas Preist, the Scorpions,Def-lepard,Riot,Ozzy Osbourne, Rainbow and Dio-Sabbath were playing polished, streamlined metal, so for it's time, this was very raw. Other songs here are the offensive "SON OF A BITCH", the rock n roller "BURNING" and the beautiful love ballad "BREAKING UP AGAIN" which is sung by Peter Baltes.Ofcourse many might find Udo's razor screeches and gutteral growls to be painful to listen to, which has always been a love/hate relationship with him for many listeners. This Hint's at Accepts rise to the metal mountain, because after this they would release "RESTLESS AND WILD", arguable the greatest metal album made, and follow that up with the classics "BALLS TO THE WALL" AND "METAL HEART". BREAKER is a great album so what else can i say? an important album from one of Germanys finest musical ensambles.

Gooosh! What an album!! Accept's third album is an astonishing improvement over "I'M A REBEL"! Incredible!! IT opens with ""Starlight" and things only improve after that: "Run If You Can", "Midnight Highway", the "fake" live track "Burning", the infectious chorus of "Feelings"... Everything falls intoplace in a marvellous way!

this cd blow my head , is really amaizing the voice of UDO in this and all the next albums, accept are one of the pioneers of the germany metal and if you are looking for a band with power and madness of rock'n'roll, they really are. songs like "breaker","burning"(yeah) and "son of a(you know)" were the base of the metal in the 80's decade....

The band's first HEAVY album came out in 1981 and it is by far my favorite accept effort. This was before they started mixing classical elements into there music as evident on the next three albums (Restless and Wild was awesome too though),no, this is a diffirent kind of beast, it's raw and just heavy with nothing else, very hard, driving music here.Too bad that this is so hard to find nowdays, i really think it's one of the best examples of early 80's metal (...), what else can i say? Udo is just wonderful here, so ain't Wolf, all of the songs rock, but the shocking SON OF A BITCH just rules!

BREAKER is their best along with the next one RESTLESS AND WILD, but after that Accept got a little too processed for my taste.Definaly Accepts heaviest album though.
