Book Description

Breakfast Getaway

A story involving a dumb criminal, a dumb waitress, and Rick

Rick is in a hurry to get out of Chicago after he was involved in a robbery gone wrong, but he decides that its not a good idea to drive 12 hours on an empty stomach. So he pulls into a diner where he meets Rachel --a beautiful woman who happens to be a terrible waitress who pours coffee everywhere except Rick's cup. Her clumsy customer service delays Rick's departure.

After a disastrous breakfast he finds himself in danger of not making it out of Chicago once Eric, his dimwitted partner in crime, catches up to him. Now he must find a way to get through breakfast and lose his partner before he loses his freedom.

5.0 out of 5 stars What...OMG...HAHAHAHA May 18, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
RJ Lockett's short story was filled with some colorful characters. The characters while not relate-able were surely comedic. Rachel a clumsy waitress who proves pouring coffee is not her strong suit;along with sad customer service. The constant changing of seats and spilled coffee, had me caught between being mad and dying with laughter cause I could just imagine poor Ricks' face. Now Rick is on the run after a robbery gone wrong, who thinks about food when they trying to get away with millions??? Rick that's who! And his partner Eric was just as sad, caught up between running from this robbery, finding out his wife cheated on him, and being hungry that's just too many choices for Eric? Stay tuned to see what happens next... I found this story extremely funny and was a quick read on my way to work.

RJ keep those stories coming!

5.0 out of 5 stars One Interesting Breakfast May 16, 2012

This was a very fun story to read. It was very funny. The only issue I had was Rachel's intelligence. I know she was supposed to be not very smart but I think that she was a little too stupid for my liking. Overall still a five star read.

Another horrible book by R.J Lockett... Again I am certainly glad I didn't pay for these books. If all the books by this author are like these then I will be sure to not buy any of them.

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting, Psychotic Characters June 12, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Breakfast Getaway was a quick funny read. I had some laugh out loud moments. However; I didn't get the use of the "N" word at the end. The author could have used another noun. That's just my opinion. Overall, the characters were interesting. I've never known a black dude to be a tough thug-wannabe who cried like a PMSing girl. Eric had to be on medication or something (or needed to be.) Rachel was dumber than a wheelbarrow of rocks, but that made the story funny. I haven't decided if I like the character Rick or not.
Reading this definitely makes me want to know more about what happened. I'd read more books/short stories by this author.

Sorry, when I can't get through the first page because of the language, particularly the "F" word, it's not for me.

Right when I got to the plot thickens it was done. I don't understand why the main character didn't know his boys wife let alone pick up a waitress in a restaurant on the way out of town. And what man just breaks down and cries constantly? Other than being neurotic. It could have been much longer. Who killed that dude and why did he go back to the restaurant? What happened for them to get the money? Where was the robbery? I didn't expect it to end like that. It should be targeted as a short story so you don't get your hopes up to read a great urban fiction novel.
