At least most other "reality" shows have truth to the characters, such as Duck Dynasty, Teen Moms, etc, however this show is all LIES.
In Duck Dynasty, they are who they say they are, their wives are their wives, their jobs, etc. On Teen Moms, again, it really is a teen mom with her own baby, baby daddy, etc. I realize they ad-lib on the stories, but on "Breaking Amish" everything is a lie. Abe and Rebecca were already together before the show, and baby is suspected to be Abes, Jeremiah is married with three children, and has been in and out of jail for domestic violence, the memonite girl was also still married, and by the way Jeremiah's wife says he has been driving a car for years. All of them had left the Amish/Menonite long before being on the show. Kate seems to be the only one that is halfway legit. What a waste of my money and time, won't be watching any more "Amish" anything shows.

I initially watched the show out of curiosity. It immediately struck me as being inauthentic. I kept watching for lack of anything better to do but never did find any of them to be partcularly interesting. After watching the final episode of the reunion show I can honestly say I will never watch anything any of them is on ever again. Their dis-respect for the host was shocking to me. They signed up to be on the show and be in the public however, they did not want to keep their end of the bargain up and answer the tough questions they had to know would be coming. It was obvious to me, they were all lying. They acted entitled and instead of politey choosing not to answer the questions, they showed their lack of class and blatent narcisicm by choosing to continually refuse to participate in the discussion often basting the host in the most demeaning manner. I am still upset over this and if TLC dares to air a season 2, I will run not walk as far as I can from my TV. It appears they will all be in for many long unhappy days ahead.

I'd had visited an Amish community once when I was 12 years old back in the late 80's. I had expected much more from this show, but as the season went on, I found bits and pieces that made me question a lot. Perhaps there is more to the Amish lifestyle than I am aware of, but this seemed to be like Big Love meets the Real World. The best part was probably the interview episodes at the end where the truth sorta comes out.

Another horrible and cynical rip-off of Amish people. Of course, the producers are the same slimeballs who brought the equally craplike Amish Mafia to us. The slithering producers are aptly named 'Hot Snakes.'

I work with several Amish communities and not sure how legite this is. I hope that those who don't know the Amish don't get crazy ideas about their culture.

These kids seem to already know way too much about the world of the "english". The show was enlightening. They are not the cream of the crop of amish kids I gather and they seem to resent those who have raised them to be good and decent. The show tells alot w/out saying alot. However, I think the show is exploiting the kids and they don't realize it. Too bad none of them care what thier guardians/ parents are trying to warn them of.

For me this was my time. I could watch this when my husband was gone and just enjoy something for me. I really enjoyed the story of these young people embarking into a world they have never seen. I enjoyed learning about the Amish and their way of life. The story line between Abe and Rebecca is just so sweet and seems so solid. I felt so good to see a man who truely loves and admires a woman. They were married on the show and it was wonderful. I was disappointed that it ended, I hope we can see more of them some day. Maybe a trip abroad with their children, or Disney world

The concept of the program is informative, however I find the outragious drama is getting a bit old.
Pennsylvania, Central Pennsylvania is my home area and I am familiar with the Amish and Mennonite communities. I do realize that the communities are more than quilts, shoofly pie and apple butter, but come on. A little more personal growth and a little less drama? We all know that a good bit of the program is staged.
