The "Breaking Bad" Complete Series collection is a must own for fans of the show. If you've always watched the show or if you've just discovered it recently, then you know how great it is. If you've never seen "Breaking Bad", then I encourage you to give it a chance. Rarely has a show had this much universal acclaim (a 9.4 on IMDb, a 99/100 on Metacritic, 3 Emmy wins for Drama Actor and 4 Nominations for Best Drama Series, etc). [Note: If you want to sample the show, the entire series is streaming on Netflix at the time of this review].

This complete series blu-ray set features the same disc content as the now out-of-print "money barrel set" that was released last year. It contains every episode of the show as well as the special bonus disc only available in the Complete Series sets. So for those that missed out on the barrel set or just wanted simpler packaging, this new product is the perfect option.

I bought this at Costco for $93.99. As is well known this is an EXCELLENT series. But buyers of the DVD complete series be aware that there are NO ENGLISH SUBTITLES. So why am I griping about the lack of English subtitles? Because beginning in the third year of the series much of the dialog is whispered and is VERY difficult to discern. This is doubly true with regards to the Skylar character. My review is for the DVD set NOT the Blu-Ray set. I am told the Blu-Ray has English subtitles.

This is a ten star series but the oversight of not having English subtitles devalues the production significantly. If I had to do it over I would cough up the extra $35 and get the Blu-Ray set. Buyer beware!

UPDATE: One reader inquired if I had turned the Subtitle function on which reminded me to include the following in my review above. English is listed as one of the languages available for subtitles along with Spanish and French. I activated it all to no avail.

Therefore, if any reader has this DVD set and IS ABLE to use the English subtitle function please let me know so that I have a legitimate reason to return this set as being defective. Thanks.

5.0 out of 5 stars THANK GOD! NO MORE SILLY NOVELTY BARRELS! May 21, 2014
Format:Blu-ray
This is EXACTLY what I've been waiting for -- a no-frills, simple edition of the entire series in a slipcase, to fit comfortably on my shelf with my other box sets. I needn't review the series here, as anyone who's seen BrBa knows that it's the zenith of episodic television. This box set simply brings it all home.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great series in a great looking set! June 4, 2014
Format:Blu-ray|Verified Purchase
I think all that needs to be said about the quality of the show has been said, so I'll just talk about the presentation of the product. First of all, while I was bummed I missed out on the Collectors Edition last November, I am happy that I now have something that doesn't look out of place on my shelf. The set looks great, and the books containing the discs for each season have great promotional shots from the series history. The blu-ray looks fantastic (watched most of the show on netflix and I didn't always have the cleanest streaming, so the show has never looked better!) and the special features are self contained to each season (Season 1 special features are in the season 1 book, etc). That said, my only real gripe with the set is the documentary that's bundled with the set. It's in a very inconvenient sleeve, inside the set cover and it's rather difficult to get out of there. I nearly ripped the sleeve from the set trying to fat-finger the disk out (it's snug in the sleeve and won't just slide).

All in all, a very happy customer.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Review without spoilers May 1, 2014
By DJ
Format:Blu-ray
When Breaking Bad premiered, I saw the commercials and read a basic info piece that summed up the premise of the show. I couldn't help but see the correlations between this show and Weeds, a show I had been quite a fan of until they began their slow and painful jump over the proverbial shark. I read later that the last season or so they (Weeds) had rekindled that initial magic somewhat but by then I really couldn't have cared less.
Having been put off by that idea and the subsequent failures of shows that came and went before and since then. Lost, Fringe et al. Shows that started off with great footing but that slipped as things went on. Or as in the case with Fringe, just didn't have the ratings to continue and literally churned out the last few episodes to make the golden number of 100. The basic threshold of syndication. (the amount of shows generally required for other networks to "pay to show" the series). And I was again left feeling frustrated and a little ripped off.

It is with this mindset that I finally started watching Breaking Bad. Over Christmas, AMC showed the complete series over a few days and I set my DVR to record it.
I started watching and got through the first few episodes on the first day. I continued the following day and in the end, I "binge" watched the entire series in about 8-9 days.

There are moments in the show that literally made me cringe and at times it was all I could do to not turn away. These are moments that, although are almost unbearable, are that way because of how much I cared about those involved. I really liked the characters I liked and I hated the ones I hated. There are times when the tension and unspoken words are palpable. Countenance and body language speaking volumes.

My bluray boxset arrived last friday.
I'm from Chile, I speak spanish. I can confirm that this boxset doesn't include spanish subtitles on season 1 and 2 (only <english sdh> on S01 and <english> and <english sdh> on S02).
Season 3, 4, 5a, 5b and bonus disc includes spanish... Read More

Does anyone know when this is gonna be released?
Maybe they're waiting for all the broken barrel sets, to be sold off. I put in my order back in February; caught it at $161.69. I wouldn't want the UK or Canadian version either, only because all the discs, may not be region free. Some people have said they are, but I didn't want to take a... Read More

129.99 at Best Buy
Yeah, I'm watching the price carefully right now, It's a $30 difference for me right now. Amazon charges tax here in Mass. so no big deal for me just to pick it up at Best Buy. Plus I don't have to worry about it getting damaged in transit.
