The "Breaking Bad" Complete Series collection is a must own for fans of the show. If you've always watched the show or if you've just discovered it recently, then you know how great it is. If you've never seen "Breaking Bad", then I encourage you to give it a chance. Rarely has a show had this much universal acclaim (a 9.4 on IMDb, a 99/100 on Metacritic, 3 Emmy wins for Drama Actor and 4 Nominations for Best Drama Series, etc). [Note: If you want to sample the show, the entire series is streaming on Netflix at the time of this review].

This complete series blu-ray set features the same disc content as the now out-of-print "money barrel set" that was released last year. It contains every episode of the show as well as the special bonus disc only available in the Complete Series sets. So for those that missed out on the barrel set or just wanted simpler packaging, this new product is the perfect option.

- No Half Measures: Creating the Final Season of Breaking Bad - An all-new, exclusive two hour documentary that chronicles the filming of the final eight episodes.
- Bad Memories - Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul talk about the show ending and some of their favorite moments.
- Bryan Cranston: Director - Go on set with Bryan Cranston as he directs the first episode of the season entitled "Blood Money."
- Scene Envy - The Cast tell us which scene they wish they could have been in.
- Shocking Moments - The stars reveal the moments that shocked them most.
- From Walt to Heisenberg - From high school teacher to deadly meth dealer, watch as Walter White quickly transforms into Heisenberg.
- How Will It End?

5.0 out of 5 stars I Believe **No Spoilers** January 10, 2014
When Breaking Bad premiered, I saw the commercials and read a basic info piece that summed up the premise of the show. I couldn't help but see the correlations between this show and Weeds, a show I had been quite a fan of until they began their slow and painful jump over the proverbial shark. I read later that the last season or so they (Weeds) had rekindled that initial magic somewhat but by then I really couldn't have cared less.
Having been put off by that idea and the subsequent failures of shows that came and went before and since then. Lost, Fringe et al. Shows that started off with great footing but that slipped as things went on. Or as in the case with Fringe, just didn't have the ratings to continue and literally churned out the last few episodes to make the golden number of 100. The basic threshold of syndication. (the amount of shows generally required for other networks to "pay to show" the series). And I was again left feeling frustrated and a little ripped off.

It is with this mindset that I finally started watching Breaking Bad. Over Christmas, AMC showed the complete series over a few days and I set my DVR to record it.
I started watching and got through the first few episodes on the first day. I continued the following day and in the end, I "binge" watched the entire series in about 8-9 days.

There are moments in the show that literally made me cringe and at times it was all I could do to not turn away. These are moments that, although are almost unbearable, are that way because of how much I cared about those involved. I really liked the characters I liked and I hated the ones I hated. There are times when the tension and unspoken words are palpable. Countenance and body language speaking volumes.

I bought this at Costco for $93.99. As is well known this is an EXCELLENT series. But buyers of the DVD complete series be aware that there are NO ENGLISH SUBTITLES. So why am I griping about the lack of English subtitles? Because beginning in the third year of the series much of the dialog is whispered and is VERY difficult to discern. This is doubly true with regards to the Skylar character. My review is for the DVD set NOT the Blu-Ray set. I am told the Blu-Ray has English subtitles.

This is a ten star series but the oversight of not having English subtitles devalues the production significantly. If I had to do it over I would cough up the extra $35 and get the Blu-Ray set. Buyer beware!

UPDATE: One reader inquired if I had turned the Subtitle function on which reminded me to include the following in my review above. English is listed as one of the languages available for subtitles along with Spanish and French. I activated it all to no avail.

Therefore, if any reader has this DVD set and IS ABLE to use the English subtitle function please let me know so that I have a legitimate reason to return this set as being defective. Thanks.

5.0 out of 5 stars THANK GOD! NO MORE SILLY NOVELTY BARRELS! May 21, 2014
This is EXACTLY what I've been waiting for -- a no-frills, simple edition of the entire series in a slipcase, to fit comfortably on my shelf with my other box sets. I needn't review the series here, as anyone who's seen BrBa knows that it's the zenith of episodic television. This box set simply brings it all home.

What a let-down. First of all - the three stars are ONLY for the box set - NOT THE SHOW - which is a hundred stars - one of the best series ever. Here is the issue: this complete set is missing tons of the bells & whistles from the cannister-set of the series on blu-ray - roughly missing about 12 hours of material, including the entire bonus disc and a brand new 2 hour docu on the final season. What these are simply are just the individual blu-ray seasons put into a shiny box - the extras here are the same as if you just bought them individually. So you could buy the seperate seasons - some of them used for 10 bucks, and have this entire collection with every extra that appears here for about 55 dollars - instead I spent 130 to get ripped off in a set that doesn't include all the cool new extras. Unfortunately, that set happens to go for $400 dollars. But that is for the packaging, special booklet, etc - it shouldn't cost a weeks' salary to get the bonus disc. Still great, but this box set is useless unless you want to pay an axtra 50 dollars for a bigger box to put the smaller ones in. This is a shame - I can't believe you can only have the good extras if you fork over 400 +. Not cool at all. Don't waste your money - but the individual boxes - they are EXACTLY the same.
UPDATE: I understand that there IS a planned complete series release on this that INCLUDES the BONUS disc although I have not seen this as a pre-order yet - I am responding to a rumor I heard per the comment below me. For the record - this BLU RAY set is beautiful and has all the attributes you'd accept. But the bonus disc, which includes at least 4 hours of amazing and new stuff is not on this - what I beleive this is is some kind of International version - as the UK 18 ONLY tags are all over it.

Is the barrel set censored?
Haven't watched them yet (just got barrel today), but they were uncensored on NetFlix. Additionally, during one of the Breaking Bad Insider podcasts, Vince G. said that they are uncensored when you buy them.

EDIT: Just looked in the booklet/guide that comes with the set, and it indicates not... Read More

What similar tv series do you reccommend?
The Shield follows themes seen in Breaking Bad. Consequences and the impact f a man's decisions. Also the protagonist is bald.

How many were made?
It is a limited edition, so unless they decide to do a second run of the barrel, it is unlikely that stores will get more in if they are sold out. Even the official Breaking Bad store is sold out, so you are better off checking out your local box stores to see if there are any left at a... Read More
