I really enjoyed this book. It is a good mix of great stories and practical advice on how to overcome obstacles. It makes you really stop and think about the challenges in your life, and then think creatively about how to overcome them. A great read!

Breaking Barriers,
This review is from: Breaking the Barriers: Overcoming Adversity and Reaching Your Greatest Potential (Hardcover)
In three sections on "The Heart of the Father, The Wisdom of the Son, and The Discipline of the Spirit, the author explains how you can be the type of person God expects you to be. In story-telling style, the author describes Godly character and how to develop it in the reader's life. I especially enjoyed the chapter on True Wisdom and how important it is for us to learn Godly wisdom.
There are several things that I think set this book apart from others. The author did not come from a perfect family, so he has experiences that can be helpful for others, especially young people. It is written in a comfortable, relaxed style. The author opens up and shares stories of his life, decisions he had to make, and situations that required wisdom in behavior. Imagine being approached by a rough looking character in the middle of the night asking for money and a ride. Then think about helping him and learning an important spiritual lesson from the stranger. Another story of unattended baggage at the airport demonstrates behavior choices. Although anyone can learn from this book, I would highy recommend it for teens and young adults.

This review is from: Breaking the Barriers: Overcoming Adversity and Reaching Your Greatest Potential (Hardcover)
This easy-to-read book will help anyone find inspiration and help when overcoming adversities of life. Using the Bible as the foundation, and drawing truths found in his own learned life lessons as well as those of others, the author shares a step-by-step guide to becoming all we are destined to be. Each chapter ends with a specific prayer meant to assist the reader.
The book can be read cover to cover or a chapter at a time which makes it ideal for group studies. The author quotes his friend, "Pride is like bad breath; everyone knows you have it except you."

I haven't had a chance to read this book yet, but I saw Jason Frenn live and enjoyed his ministry. I know the book will be life changing as I let Jesus change me through it.

The world is filled with dysfunction, futility, and confusion, people are looking for looking for meaning and significance. They want to break through the barriers holding them back. In BREAKING THE BARRIERS, Mr. Frenn offers three foundational pillars to help his readers overcome the most difficult obstacles in their lives. Pillar 1: The Heart of the Father Grabbing Hold of God's Heart Unleashing the Power of God's Heart in Your Life Pillar 2: The Wisdom of the Son Making Godly Sense Unleashing the Power of Christ's Heart in Your Life Pillar 3: The Discipline of the Spirit Peace for Your Soul Unleashing the Power of the Spirit in Your Life With all the materialism in this world, sometimes it takes a divine act of God to get us past the wealth and richness that we can see everywhere, to get to the heart of God and do serve where He wants us, even if that road means less wealth and glamour than you want. Mr. Frenn introduces to the big questions of life as well: Why? What? How? What's in it for me? If you are looking for direction and meaning in your life, and where God wants you to serve, then BREAKING THE BARRIERS would be a good book to pick up.

I've had this book for several months now and I realized that I should submit a review on it to share my experience. I waited to do this because I wanted to be able to give an honest review.
This book is very easy to follow--I had a hard time putting it down once I got started. The testimonies are great. It's not like someone giving advice on things that he's never experienced himself. I've had the privilege of hearing this minister preach a few times at my church and I can tell you that he's real and he speaks from the heart. You must be willing to put into practice the steps that are laid out in the book. You can't finish it and then sit back and expect a complete turnaround overnight. It takes hard work on your part--I know, because I'm living it right now. I've had more than a few barriers that have been holding me back in life, but I had at least two significant barriers to overcome. After a few months of putting into practice what I have learned, I can honestly testify that the Lord answered my prayers and helped me with major breakthroughs! I'm experiencing some freedom that I never thought possible and I'm never going back to the way I was because I want complete freedom. I still have work to do, but I'm thrilled at my progress so far and I'm closer to God more than ever. I'm also starting to experience other amazing changes in my life and people around me keep asking me what's going on because they are noticing something different about me. I love it. If you're feeling lost like I was, and you know you need to make changes but are not sure how to get started, you need to give this book a chance. You won't be sorry.

Jason is a great storyteller. Having seen him speak, I was so looking forward to hearing his stories- and he did not disappoint. His narratives generated goose bumps on more than one occasion, accounting events in his own life as well as others who have implemented his counsel. This book is easy to read and thought provoking, offering practical solutions to "breaking the barriers" and "reaching your greatest potential."

This review is from: Breaking the Barriers: Overcoming Adversity and Reaching Your Greatest Potential (Hardcover)
Jason Frenn's storytelling is so effective that I almost gasped at his description of the precipice his father-in-law encountered one stormy night as a missionary in Central America. He writes with ease in a comfortable, inviting style. Yet, he challenges us to take responsibility for our own barriers - those that are self-created and those life hands us. With ample confessions of flaws in his own life, he provides a model for us. He encourages us to take hold of the tiller of our lives so we can be the gifts to the world that God intended when He redeemed us. Especially if you are feeling stuck and don't know where to turn, this book is a must-read.

A Good Book to Read,

I rarely edit my reviews, but in this case the author contacted me to politely discuss the review (originally it was negative)
Somewhat impressive, and I believe my original view was flawed with assumptions. This book does have some very nice stories and interesting topics and the minister apparently has a warm heart. Would recommend to a friend |
