Economist Journalist's 8 Months in Pakistan,
By JC (MD USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Breaking the Curfew: A Political Journey Through Pakistan (Paperback)
A close analysis of this rambunctious and often infuriatingly volatile society presenting a fascinating first hand portrait of Pakistan, "a country of paradox, where banditry is business, business is based on vendetta and corruption is systematic - and where politics is the breath of life." Though quite a few years removed at this point many things haven't changed much.

This review is from: Breaking the Curfew: A Political Journey Through Pakistan (Hardcover)
This book was an unexpected surprise for me; it is a little known gem. Brilliantly and beautifully written, an absolute pleasure to read. The cover was unpromising, but once opened, it is hard to put down. Duncans detailed analysis, and strong imagery provides for a highly readable text, where the happenings of a complex country and its people are presented in a style that is informative and engaging. This is one of my favorite books on Pakistan, and I would highly recommend it to everyone who is interested in knowing more about this region. |
