Book Description

During Chett Vosloo's final year of university he was diagnosed with a rare skin disorder that the doctors told him was incurable. Rather than face up to the disorder, Chett tried to ignore it, hoping that it would go away by itself, but it didn’t. It only got worse.

After graduating from university Chett packed a bag and set off on a gap year trip, not realizing that he had just begun a journey that would completely change his life. His gap year opened his eyes to the world of adventure. A 25,000 kilometer bicycle trip around the world, and a 1,300 kilometer solo trip by foot through the south of India, were among the adventures he would go on. Yet, no matter where Chett went and how much of the world he saw, the anxiety and fear that he felt over his skin condition shadowed him. Eventually, after years of traveling, Chett happened to come in contact with a spiritual teacher in India who would forever change the direction of his life. This teacher would help him realize that real peace and happiness come from within, and that he would only be able to find true freedom in his life once he had faced up to everything he was trying to run away from. This was the start of Chett's inner journey.

Breaking Free is the inspiring true story of one man’s desire to transform his life, and to search for what it means to be truly happy and free.

5.0 out of 5 stars How to live a full and rewarding life January 22, 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
There are so many life lessons to be learnt through reading this book mainly to have an open mind as to what the universe has in store for you and to live in the moment. A true inspiration to young and old, really makes you question your own life and hopefully have the same courage to follow your dreams and heart. Thoroughly enjoyed the book and will be doing some follow up reading to learn more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brave and Inspirational! December 23, 2012
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I am a big reader. I love reading books of all kinds. I especially love books that inspire me and make me question my own life/plans/dreams. This book did all of that and more! I greatly enjoyed reading a book that was not only a tale of a spiritual journey, but also a travelogue. Chett has led a fascinating life so far, and you get the sense that there is still many more amazing experiences in store for him. It is so brave of him to share all of the innermost details of his heart and life, and doing so in a way that inspires the reader to examine their own heart and life. I loved it! It has made me think, feel and dream. What else can you want in a book? I can't wait for the sequel ;)

Chett Vosloo takes the reader on a very personal journey around the world and within her or himself. it's a radical adventure, told with child-like innocence and honesty, that has a nugget of insight all along the way.
whether you're on the side of the road with him in Iran, or within your own heart, facing your insecurities, this is a must-read for any spiritual seeker.

4.0 out of 5 stars Well worth the time December 30, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I'm not sure what I thought this book was about. It was on my Kindle and I was bored and needed something to read so I opened it up At first I thought it was going to be a contemporary romance. It seemed to be a guy hanging out in bars, sleeping around, and generally sailing aimlessly through life. Then, it seemed to be an adventure story. He started traveling to remote places and bicycling across continents and getting altitude sickness while climbing a mountain.

Then came the spiritual and psychological stories. The main character experienced significant anxiety issues and the physical consequences from that anxiety. The book then follows his quite interesting and unique journey to "Break Free" of his limiting beliefs while living in Asia, an ashram, and while being part of an entourage for a spiritual guru.

There were several things that really captured my interest. First, was the author's description of money mind, that distinctly annoying thing that happens when one first attempts to meditate and control one's thoughts. The weekend meditation workshops that I participated in were some of the most physically, emotionally, and mentally draining activities I've ever chosen to attend. When I first became aware that I couldn't purposefully harness my thoughts for more than a few seconds at a time it was quite an eye opener for me. Even more shocking was the "no way, no how" reaction that my brain expressed when I made the attempt.

Second, the author did a fantastic job of describing the physical manifestations of emotional dis-ease. The physical problems are real, but the origin isn't in the body. This is something I experience personally and see professionally on a daily basis.
