Heartland: My Favorite Books,
By Michelle (Near Boston, MA, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Breaking Free (Heartland #3) (Paperback)
All the Heartland books are AWESOME. I am now doing a book report on the first three, maybe four if I can get Taking Chances in time. If you haven't read these books before, they are about a fifteen year old girl, Amy Fleming, who has had a tough life yet has persevered through it. In the first book, Amy brings her mother out in a storm to resuce a horse who was abandoned by his owners. After they get Spartan in the trailer and are heading back, a tree hits their truck, killing her mom. In the rest of the books, you learn how Amy copes with her moms work, healing horses, saving Heartland, putting up with her sister, Lou, and stopping Ty from leaving after so long. So, If you like horses, or even the Chicken Soup books, I would recommend these wonderful books!

Touching, and True to Life,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Breaking Free (Heartland #3) (Paperback)
Business has been slow at Heartland. But Amy forgets that when Pegusus, the last thing of her old life, get's sick.Lou has some good ideas to help raise the business, but is Amy ready for more of Lou's new ideas? When she picks up Promise, a saddle-shy Arabian mare from a prestigious Arabian breeder, Amy begins to doubt her own abilities. Between School, Promise, and Pegusus, Amy learns how to restore Heartland, and heal her own heart. Breaking Free touched me, and stayed true to life in everything it wrote of. If we just LISTEN. . . we can hear a lot.

Heartland #3,

This review is from: Breaking Free (Heartland #3) (Paperback)
Heartland books are great. Even though this one was really sad, it was also really interesting, and you learned a lot about how they heal the horses. I really hope that Lou contacts their Dad, would love to see him in the next book, though it would make some of them really sad and emotional. (But isn't that how all the other books have been? They're all sad.) Anyway, I loved the book and recomend it to any horselover like myself.

After healing Spartan and rehoming him, Amy realizes that they are short on money. How can they get extra cash, to keep Heartland up and running? Besides that matter, Amy's fathers' horse, Pegasus, seems to have developed an illness, one no one can cure. Amy despereately clings to him, attempting all kinds of remedies to cure him, but Pegasus is slowly fading away. Amy knows that she lost her mother. But she doesn't want Pegasus to go; he's all that she has left to remind her of her mother. But Amy must let go, and break free to start a new life.

Breaking Free,
This review is from: Breaking Free (Heartland #3) (Paperback)
In this, the 3rd book in the series, Amy faces more problems. Pegasus, missing Amy's mother, has started to become listless and ill. Plus, when there's a misunderstanding between Ty and Amy, horses are taken away from Heartland and they are losing money. That is, until a reputable Arabian breeder (or half Arabian breeder, it probably should be, since the horse she brings is palomino) brings a mare who rears and freaks out when people try to saddle her. I thought this book was continuing in the great 'tradition' of the first two. Amy, once again, is a very human character. She has flaws; she loses her temper and she cannot always work miracles. I was happy to see that, for once, join-up wasn't the answer to the mare's problems, and for once, Amy didn't know exactly what to do. I mean, certain tactics don't work for every horse. I like the continuing relationship with Ty...Amy gets mad at him in the beginning and, this time, he isn't so quick to make up with her. In the end, it was very sad, but it was very thought provoking and very good.

Breaking Free,

About the book: Amy is worried. Her favorite horse pegusas appears depressed. He used to hang his head out the stall waiting for marion but now that she is dead he is listless. But when heartland's vet runs some tests he discovers that Pegasus is in grave danger. Pegasus has cancer. Amy has to make a descision. Will she put him down or fight with everything she has to save the great horse?
My opinion: GREAT BOOK! This series has a lot of sadness though. In the first book you discover that 1) amy's father was paralized in an acident 2) amy's mother dies in a car acident 3)Amy and her sister Lou have a really rough relationship 4)Mrs. bell dies and her horse is left to starve. In the second book amy carries aroung ALOT of guilt and she faces the world without her parents. and in this book she faces the reality of her own horse pegasus dying. I think the death/sadness is rather repetative. I hope this series doesnt turn out to be as repatative as the recent THOROUGHBRED books. All in all this was a great book and i reccomend it to any horse lover and anyone who collects the series.

Amazing Book!,

This review is from: Breaking Free (Heartland #3) (Paperback)
Heartland series is a wonderful series for people who like horses, and even for people who don't. The heartland series is about a girl named Amy who lived with her mom in Virgina after her dad left their family. But unfourtunalty, Amy and her mom were in an accident and Amy's mom did not survive. Now Amy struggles to keep Heartland running. (Heartland is a horse stable where abused and hurt horses, as well as horses that have been sent there to be cured of their behavior problems are sent to be taken care of.) Without her mother, it is almost impossible to keep Heartland running. With the help of her grandfather and sister Lou, as well as Ty the assistant for Heartland, Amy is able to keep Heartland running. In this book, Amy is struggling with an older horse named Pegasus. Pegasus was her mother's favorite horse and is very depressed over the loss of her favorite human friend. Amy struggles to take care of Pegasus, as well as keeping Heartland taken care of. This is a very touching and emotional book, that I think is best for kids 10 and up... I really enjoyed this book as well as all the other books in it's series. I was able to finish this book in one day, it was so good. I really think you'll enjoy it.

This book is very touching, and if ever you feel that you are the saddest person in the world, read this and see that people can be sadder than you. I don't know how that helps, but sometimes it does. Enough people have written like the summary of this story, so I won't write it.

Great!,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Breaking Free (Heartland #3) (Paperback)
The first time I bought these books I didn't even know what the story was. It was on 5th grade I ordered them form a scholastic magazine. They sat on my shelf for about a year or 2. It was a year ago I finally picked up the first book and I just loved them! And its not really a Horse story. I mean yeah Horses are a pretty big part in the books, but Its really about Amy's life. When I bought book #13 I had my mom buy #14 that same day because I had to find out what happened to TY! My point is that when you read these books theres no putting them down! These books have a good mixture of adventure, suspence,Knowledge, troubles,Feelings, and a bit of romance. Overall these books are great! If your reading this review to see if you want to read the books, I advise you to read the books! You'll love them! tootles! |
