EXCELLENT SELF HELP GUIDE, October 30, 1997
This review is from: Breaking Free: A Self-Help Guide for Adults Who Were Sexually Abused As Children (Paperback)
UPON READING THIS BOOK I WAS ABLE TO UNDERSTAND SOME OF THE ADULT PROBLEMS I WAS HAVING FROM INCEST. PREVIOUS TO READING THIS GUIDE I COULD NOT UNDERSTAND MY INABILITY TO SLEEP AT NIGHT, OR TO STAY FOCUSED ON TASKS,DEPRESSION. THIS BOOK HAS HELPED TO UNDERSTAND MANY EFFECTS I HAVE HAD AS AN ADULT BUT NEVER NEW COULD BE THE RESULT OF INCEST. IF YOU ARE AN INCEST SURVIVOR I RECOMMEND THIS BOOK TO YOU.

Written for women survivors only..., November 21, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Breaking Free: A Self-Help Guide for Adults Who Were Sexually Abused As Children (Paperback)
I was disappointed that this book was sold as a self-help book for adults instead of its true target audience which is adult women. They authors devote about 71 words in the preface to male survivors. I would recommend this book for women, but I would not recommend it for male survivors like myself. It made me feel as alone and unheard as when I started... I am quite angry at the lack of focus on male survivors and the idea that the authors readily admit their research has been restricted to females, but still sell the book as a panacea for both sexes. It has just reinforced the isolation I feel. There is a book by Mike Lew and it is written just for male survivors and it is not marketed it as anything else. I have not yet read it, but it is my next choice to read.
