Editorial Reviews

Instead of tearing people down," said Annie, director of a camp for blind kids, "try to build them up. It gets better results." Annie's going to need results, and maybe even a little luck, after she talks Parole Officer Mac Lawton into letting her hire Rick, a juvenile delinquent, to work as a stable boy at her camp. It's only by accident -- literally -- that Rick meets Lindsay, a world-class gymnast. Both are trying to overcome stumbling blocks. For Rick, it's his old friends who are holding him back; For Lindsay, it's facing a world that has suddenly gone dark. But their friendship helps them see beyond the here and now. And maybe they will break free, once they help each other see what they can be.

3.0 out of 5 stars Well-Meaning Family Fare, August 15, 2006
This review is from: Breaking Free [VHS] (VHS Tape)
The preceding rave reviews of this obscure movie convinced us to buy the video. The movie is well-meaning, inoffensive, and filled with positive messages of hope and courage and ultimate triumph against all odds. Please be advised, however, that it plays like an After-School Special for preteens. Its target audience was clearly a young one, and mature viewers like ourselves will likely find it a trifle tedious. Kudos for having its heart in the right place.

I finished viewing this film about 30 minutes ago. It was very moving, inspirational and I was deeply touched by the courage and messages of this film. It deals with courage over blindness, love and treatment of animals, and faith and belief in the goodness of human beings.

This was one of the greatest movies I've ever seen! Too bad the video's been discontinued.
