Worth the 14 year quest.,

I saw the movie back in 85, 87, or 87 (I can't remember now) on The USA network's Nightflight. Watching a movie at 2:00 a.m. after a "night out" makes it little more than a blurr in the back of my mind. But I never forgot the music and set out to find the album. Not an easy task back in late 1980's Boise, Idaho. My quest ended last year in the U District at Tower Records in Seattle when I stumbled upon the CD in the soundtrack section. Well worth the wait. Even though the analog to digital conversion leaves the sound a little flat, the CD is still worth having. I envy those with the LP who are able to listen to the music as it was intended. If you are a Punk Rock fan and you get a chance to own this album, take it.

I have to agree with the reviewer from Spokane. Finding this soundtrak on CD has been a journey 10 years + in the making. I too saw the movie on Nightflight as a preteen and have had these songs stuck in my head ever since. I have to admit that I'm not the biggest fan of punk music (with the exception of Sonic Youth, RATM and early Nirvana) but this definitely sticks to the ribs and of course, it's always a treat to hear a female vocalist more concerned with screaming out lyrics than which crochet tank top to wear in her latest video. This is a gem and after all these years of searching for the disk, I can honestly say my life is complete.

I saw the film on HBO in the early 80's and i never forgot the music. I finally got hold of the soundtrack on CD and it was everything I remember: a raw, powerful, materpiece of early 80's punk. I am so glad that there are many out there who agree. For punk/new wave fans a must have.

Reminiscent of Lene Lovich's powerful work, Hazel O'Connor absolutely blew me away the first time I heard this. I only knew this music from the soundtrack, a gift from a Dutch friend when it was first released. Then, to see the music attached to dangerous, disturbed images in the movie was almost too much for one sitting. Through it all, however, is O'Connor's voice, raging against the straighjacket placed around us by society, industry and our blind obedience to technology at any cost. The amazing thing is this jarring, strident album has real lyrics, real melody, harmony. It is music - in a genre when those values are often ignored or rejected.

I saw the film in 1983 and I loved it. I am in a lucky position because I have it in LP but I want it on CD and Video.

Other than getting a CD copy of BREAKING GLASS I would be in seventh heaven if ! could get a video copy of the movie. Pretty heavy words for a 59 year old.

I had never heard of Hazel O'Connor until this year. I am a huge fan of Punk, yet I don't remember her or "Breaking Glass".
I bought the soundtrack after it was recommended to me. I liked it when I heard it, and gave it a rest for a few months. I popped it back into the CD player about 2-weeks ago and Hazel has temporarily bumped Ray Davies (who had previously precluded my ability to listen to anything other than the Kinks). The songs are instantly 'catchy', but upon further and extended listening they become infectious. I don't know how it all fits into the film as I did not see it, but the music stands on its own quite well. From what I know about Ms. O'Connor, she is pretty much a little-known pioneer. I don't know any of her other music, but this CD makes me curious all the more. I highly recommend "Breaking Glass" to anyone who enjoys post-Punk or New Wave music from the 80s.

This was great as is all Hazels music. I met her earlier this year and she really is extremly nice. Buy this music, if it is the only music you ever, it is well worth it.

Angst, timelessness, energy. Hazel O'Connor was WAY ahead of her time when she put this together. One of my top 20 favourites, right beside "Never Mind the Bollocks, Here's the Sex Pistols." Have a MINT condition copy on LP, trying like mad to get the CD. It's worth the search.

Follow-up to my review: Why Hazel is not a superstar.,

I saw Hazel's live act in which she explains what happened to her career. Like many artists, she was done in by what Ray Davies of the Kinks calls "The Moneygoround". She was bullied into signing bad contracts, cheated of money made from her songs, and frozen by litigation and debts. It's a shame because she's a powerful, passionate, and eloquent performer.
