Book Description

When LIEUTENANT ADAM “HAWK” YAZZIE rescues ENSIGN BRETT “CUTTER” WEAVER during a mission in Iraq, his faith in his team’s loyalty is shaken. Someone in the team attacked Cutter and left him for dead. But who?

ZOE WEAVER races to her brother Brett’s bedside. He stood by her while she fought her way back from a devastating injury, and she’s determined to do the same for him. Though drawn to Hawk’s good looks and steady strength, she’s reluctant to get involved with a man in uniform. But with Brett lying in a coma, Hawk may prove the key to what happened to her brother.

Hawk is torn between loyalty to his men and his need to see justice done. When he tries to save a troubled teammate’s career, he unwittingly puts Zoe’s life in danger. Can he lead the rest of the team in a rescue operation to save her? Or will one of Hawk's brothers in arms destroy the woman he loves?

5.0 out of 5 stars Great mix of suspense and romance! August 5, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
This is probably the best researched and most realistic thriller involving Special Forces personnel that I have read. The characters, their relationship's and the situations they find themselves in are all too real. As well as great suspense and a plot that keeps you interested, the main focus is on the bitter-sweet romance between Zoe and Adam that again manages to retain realism. The suspense is built up slowly to a great climax and I couldn't put this down. Definitely one I would recommend and I think that there is just about enough action and appeal in `Hawk's' character to keep the male contingent happy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Liked it a lot! July 23, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Lieutenant Adam Yazzie is the commanding officer of a SEAL unit and hasn't ever lost a member of his team during a mission. However, this personal record has been endangered during the last operation, when one of his team mates was severely wounded and left to die. He tried to rescue his friend and is also injured during this endeavor. Back home he tries to support his team mate who is in a coma and he meets the ensign's younger sister who is determined to save her brother. Feelings start to develop between Lieutenant Yazzie and Zoe Weaver, however, both of them have to struggle with serious emotional and physical problems. Will their love prevail?

Finally an intelligent military romance. What do I mean? There are very little battle and war scenes. The main part of the book is devoted to the developing romance between the two main characters, who both face their own daemons: Adam is devoted to his special job and knows very well that this is a tremendous restraint to a possible relationship. On the other hand, Zoe is physically handicapped and tries very hard to overcome her own burden. The author has managed in a very persuasive and emotional way to depict the struggles and fears of these two people, which resulted in a very gripping love story. However one or two details of the plot remain unexplained, which left me just a little bit unsatisfied.

All in all a very entertaining book of the genre with a very gripping love story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just buy the book! June 24, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
What a phenomenal book!!! I've read Mrs. Reasor's historical novels and loved them, so I knew I would love this one too. I wasn't disappointed.
I've never read a book that delved so in depth to Navy SEAL life. It was obvious that the author did her research and enjoyed the subject.
There are several characters to follow and I really hope every one of the men gets his own story. They were all personable, and 'real'. The suspense kept you guessing to the very end of the book.
I can't say enough good things about this book. Just check it out.

4.0 out of 5 stars Thoughtful and engaging October 9, 2011

"We don't pick the people we love. We just love wherever our heart takes us."

Lieutenant Adam "Hawk" Yazzie is the commanding officer of a Navy SEAL unit. During their last mission one of his team mates was badly injured and left to die. Fortunately Hawk was able to save his life. While doing that he got wounded too. Back home in California he tries to support Brett "Cutter" to regain consciousness. Brett is in a coma. Hawk meets Brett's sister, Zoe Weaver. She never gives up hope and is determined that he'll be able to fully recover. Zoe came from Kentucky to California to support her brother. Staying in California can get quite expensive, therefore Hawk invites Zoe and her mother to stay at his house. Due to a family emergency Zoe's mother, Clara, has to leave California shortly afterwards. Feelings start to develop between Hawk and Zoe, however, both of them have to deal with a few personal issues.

Zoe is incredibly self-conscious about her physical appearance. She's a beautiful woman but her legs are very badly scarred and she is physically handicapped - she's limping. But Hawk handles Zoe with great care and tenderness and he doesn't care about her flaws and imperfections.

There is a little battle scene at the beginning of the book, and as the story unfolds you'll find a bit of action as well. Ultimately this book isn't about war and action, however the author used the chance to reprocess the Navy SEAL mission which was leading to Brett's injury. And the main part of this story is devoted to the developing romance/relationship between H/h. The suspense part is just a nice bonus to the story.

The author has written a very sweet, emotional, and believable love story.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great start to new series March 19, 2012
By Cindy O
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Lieutenant Adam "Hawk" is the commanding officer of a Navy SEAL unit. During their last mission one of his team mates Brett "Cutter" Weaver was badly injured and left to die. Hawk is also hurt rescuing him before the place is blown up.

Zoe Weaver and her mother are in California for Brett who is in a coma. Zoe was in an accident when she was 7 that almost severed her leg and has left her from the waist down severely scared. Hawk out of a sense of duty to protect his men and their family insist Zoe and her mom stay at his place. Right off the bat Zoe and Hawk are attracted to each other but they both have alot of baggage from their past that causes insecurities about getting involved in a relationship.

Though out this whole book Hawk has to deal with the fact that someone on his team hurt Brett and tries to find out who of his men could have done something like this. What he finds out is that more than one of his men has secrets and some are not good.

We as the reader get to find out each of the men's secrets and wonder which one could have done it. The author does tell us at the end who does it but we are left hanging with many loose threads.

I've read that some readers had a hard time with the loose ends. That doesn't bother me. I have followed many series where we didn't even find out who the bad guy was until the 3 book in the series. What I am wondering based on something I saw the author say is how is she going to redeem 2 of the men in this series.

I look forward to the next book and also for the book of the one who left Brett for dead.

3.0 out of 5 stars Too graphically sexual
This was an okay book. I didn't like the graphic sexual content, but then, I guess I am in the minority. If you don't like graphic sex, avoid this book. Avoid this author!

How much "Seal" interaction?
Hawk is a trained Navy SEAL and there are scenes that underline that training and several that show that training in action. Also, the love scenes are hot but don't fall over into erotica. This is a character driven book. It focuses on those characters overcoming their demons and finding strength... Read More
