Tanya's marriage to Rafe was finally at the breaking point. He'd been obsessed with her and married her when he found out she was a virgin. He'd given her lots of material things, anything to keep her busy, but she eventually realized that he was keeping her out of the most important aspects of his life. After two years of being with Rafe, Tanya finally understood that to him, she was nothing but a doll for him to show off at parties and use in bed. Worse still, all the aspects of his life that were important to him, that he refused to share with Tanya, he did share with his PA, the beautiful Niki Sandstrom. Niki had been waiting for Rafe for over 10 years, 8 more than Tanya had and Rafe trusted her absolutely. Tanya was going to try one last effort to make Rafe see her as more than a toy he could pick up and put down at will, but if it failed, her marriage would finally be over. She could no longer live her life on the bottom rung of what was important to Rafe.


Emma Darcy is one of those authors that can write and not dress things up with rainbows and sunshine. One of those things is cheating. It's not uncommon to find it in an Emma Darcy book. Also for the hero to be in love with someone other than the heroine, or for the heroine to be the second choice. So when I read this book it was half hearted. I was interested in the story but afraid to become too invested in the characters. If there's anything I can't stand more, it's cheating. When I finally reached the end I breathed a sigh of relief and decided that the story deserved more of my attention.


Tanya was an interesting character. She loved Rafe but she was shut out of his life entirely. He would literally make love to her and then shut her out completely and go to work. He manipulated her with specific methods in order to control her so that she didn't come into any other part of his life. He treated her like a child, and worse than that, a stupid child and she finally understood his methods and what he was doing. She'd reached the point where she was tired of living as his doll good only for showing off and having sex with and nothing else. She decided that it was going to have to change or there would be no more marriage. In the background of all this is Rafe's personal assistant, Niki Sandstrom. She hates Tanya and has been poisoning Rafe against her. Rafe trusts her with everything, and talks to her about everything, something he doesn't do with his wife at all. Niki takes up all of his time outside of the bedroom and Tanya will no longer stand for it.

Rafe has two points of view through the book. The first one makes it clear that he has no clue who his wife really is. Through Tanya's knowledge about his actions we can also see his lack of understanding. The way she decorated the house was completely to her personality but he was surprised by her choice of decorations. Basically because of the way she looked he assumed her to be an empty-headed sex driven girl and treated her as such. Even though he should have known better.

For me I tried to excuse away such actions by thinking to myself that he didn't feel that way at first but he let his viper PA poison his mind against his wife.

This book dropped from five stars down to four for the simple reason that we only get two points of view from the hero. The first one was not helpful and the second one was pointless to what was going on in his life. In order to understand the actions of the hero, or perhaps rationalize what happened to their marriage I needed to see his interactions with Niki Sandstrom.

Tanya's grandmother tries to tell Rafe that that are worse kinds of infidelity than just sexual, but he never really understands that even at the end of the book. Niki really was his wife in all ways except one, and Tanya was only his wife in that one way.

I did love the interaction and understanding that was forming throughout the book but at the same time, the reasoning behind the resolution made no sense given the circumstances. This book needed to be longer and the character of Rafe fleshed out more into someone that had reasoning of his own rather that making excuses for him.

Despite the problems, it was a very good book. I love the story line and I liked Tanya a lot. She was a smart woman who had to figure out for herself where she was willing to stand and what she was willing to accept in a relationship.

This book was absolutely the bomb! Tanya anf Rafe love each other deeply, but there's a problem. Rafe's business partner, Nikki. When Tanya tells Rafe that Nikki likes him, he doesn't believe her. When Tanya finally issues out a ultimatuim, between her and Nikki who will he choose? Read and see!

SPOILERSSS!!! Since I knew the storyline was about wife issuing an ultimatum to the husband between her and another woman, I knew it would be so painful for me to read. I actually skimmed this book because I have a bad trait of not wanting to go through the suffering and just reading the happy ending first then going back and reading. So basically I was going back and forth the pages.. I gave it a 3 stars because my personal opinion is that the book was just too heartwrenching and dramatic for me. That darned hero was just so meeaaaannn! It was all throughout the book that he kept insisting that his secretary was innocent, it was all in the heroine's head, he would not dump the secretary, etc. etc. And then he even "rapes" the heroine later!! Sure, he was EXTREMELY regretful, but oh god... the angst, the drama! It was just too much for me to bear. I just really felt bad for the heroine. Would you want to be with a man who kept insisting that he will not get rid of the "other woman"? Hell no! So I commend the heroine for sticking to her guns and separating from him. I really don't want the heroine to be with the hero but what can I say, love is blind. The hero does give in to the heroine later but holy moly, it had to happen so close to the end of the book. And yah, the heroine had to have a bad accident before he realizes he loves her so much, can't live without her, etc. etc.. And that secretary biyatch! I wanted her to suffer and rot! But we don't get to see that other than he accepts her resignation. I have to hand it to Emma Darcy she really knows how to put in the drama and angst and the emotion! I personally don't want to re-read this book because I didn't like the hero for being such son of a gun, but the story was written well.
