Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review

Filled with hundreds of beautiful examples of how graphical challenges can be overcome with strategy, logic, and design-savvy. Although this is intended primarily for real-world-designers, the book is itself a work of art, and I would argue that online designers can learn a great deal from the elegant and simple solutions presented by the authors, the Supon Design Group. Highly Recommended! --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Introduction; Consider this, a designer is called for advice on a label for a winery's new chardonnay. A portfolio of conventional work is displayed, applicable to the prearranged parameters of a future project. Suggestions are carefully worded to appeal to the client without asking him or her to consider anything radical. A solution is selected. Mission accomplished! But what happens when a designer breaks the rules? There are a growing number of artists who apply a new perception so that a wine label may not emerge as paper glued to glass, but as a wicker frame that surrounds italicized type, secured with a bit of twine around the bottle's neck. Vision transforms a simple label into a promotional campaign - a wooden box with a painted name that houses the bottle as well as two matching glasses. A designer who bends the rules creates a forum in which all manner of original insights can start to blossom. Breaking the rules, then, opens a space for a graphic artist to generate surprises. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

5.0 out of 5 stars =An amazing display of flat out great designing=, January 3, 1998
This book, reasonably priced for the quality of the photographs in it, is a masterful showcase of design. Displaying product design, packaging, brochures, and logos, it is a great guide through the changing world of design. Unlike many books, it quotes the designing firm, and, more importantly, what they were attempting to accomplish with the design. It teaches the budding designer much about the future in the field. I highly reccommend this book, for the future designer, or for someone who just plain appreciates good art.
