5.0 out of 5 stars 80's Favorite, March 25, 2005
By
This review is from: Breaking the Silence (Audio CD)
I use to have this cassette back in back in high school (during the 80's). Some jerk off stole a bunch of my cassettes out of my car, so i didn't hear this band for almost 15 years. I finally got the reissue on cd a couple of weeks ago and it is awsome! It still rocks. I don't know why these guys didn't do any better then they did? All i know is that if you are into 80's thrash or thrash period, you need to check out this band.

They won't disappoint. Check out the cover of Sweet's "Set Me Free".

Enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars breaking the silence-the best from the bay area, April 10, 2007
This review is from: Breaking the Silence (Audio CD)
this is a great album from one of the most underrated groups from the bay area.even though they were a little more progressive than thrashy, the guitar team of pearcy and altus is pretty incredible.alot of collectors would like this one too because it includes their original demo.it's amazing that they didn't get father than they did.

5.0 out of 5 stars (WOW), August 29, 2005
This review is from: Breaking the Silence (Audio CD)
(WOW),this is an awesome thrash album, when I first heard this album I was blown away.Heathen is cheesy but who cares there music rules.Goblins Blade is the best song on the album,

Death By Hanging,Breaking The Silence,Worlds End and all the rest of the song's rule on this album, the only song I don't like is the cover song Set Me Free.If you like thrash and you never heard of Heathen or don't have this album, buy it.Oh yeah, the solo's on this album are amazing.

5.0 out of 5 stars First strike by Heathen!, July 4, 2010
This review is from: Breaking the Silence (Audio CD)
A lot of old thrash bands never got the recognition they deserved, Forbidden, Exodus, and Heathen to mention a few, pretty sad I must say, because all 3 bands (and more) had their own style, and were really original, if I were to pick the 'Big 4' I would replace Heathen with Metallica, not because of what Metallica did later in their career, that has nothing to do with it, but Heathen were clearly the better band, don't get me wrong, I love old Metallica, but this band and this album put anything they put out to shame.

The first thing you notice right from the first song 'Death by Hanging' and that this band is tight, awesome fast but catchy riffing, great vocals by David White (Godfrey), and technicality unmatched, now granted they aren't as technical here as on their excellent followup to this album 'Victims of Deception' we can see the motive of the band is to be technical, but keeping it from getting boring and plodding, which they pull off with ease.

This album is great from start to finish, even the Sweet cover 'Set me Free' is awesome, without a doubt, one of the greatest metal debuts, from one of metals greatest and underrated bands!

This was instantly recognized by me as a standout with blazing guitar work, solo's etc. over the top riffs at a thrashing speed. I say they broke new ground with this Lp. The Victims of Deception I remember as being good too, I actually had that cd in the 90's from Columbia House or BMG from their .99 bin probably. Glad to see it's in stock now, probably due to my searches about 2 years ago. gotta love the technology and internet.

If you like early Metallica, Savatage, Fates warning, Megadeth w/ Marty, or classic two guitar shreders then check this band out! The cover of set me free is incredible! produced by none other then guitar God Ronnie (speed of sound) Montrose! This whole album is easily enjoyable and just rocks! Grab it and enjoy!

I like this band. If metal were a family, this would be Fates Warning's troublesome little brother. They are more close to thrash than heavy metal and I think have a really good sound. I'm sure some would disagree with the comparison to Fates Warning, but I really think they are similar.
