wonderful characters, wonderful romance,

This review is from: Breaking The Rules (Silhouette Intimate Moments) (Paperback)
This is one of my favorite reads; the main characters are vulnerable individuals who touch your heart with their personal struggles. You will wish for a man like Zeke in your life if you favor the strong, silent, luscious-type who protect those they love. And Mattie's growth from naive trusting girl to complex loving woman makes her a heroine to savor and remember. Definitely a book to read and re-read.

I bought this book when it was first released in 1994. At the time, the name on it was Ruth Wind. It was a category romance, one of those on-the-shelf-in-the-grocery-store-for-a-month books, and since I was between jobs, I must have read fifty or sixty of them over the course of a few months that year. When I went back to work, the reading stopped, and a year or two later I got rid of most of the books. They were taking up space and it wasn't like I was going to read them again. Most of them were just not that good. But I kept three or four, the special ones, the ones I couldn't bear to part with, and this was one of those. It still is. It's there, on my shelf, eighteen years later, and has been through eight or nine house moves to date. I take it out occasionally and read it, and it's just as good as it was the first time. Great story, compelling characters, and fantastic storytelling. I would totally buy it again. In fact, I think I might, just in case the house burns down and I lose my paperback. You can't ever be too careful, can you?
