5.0 out of 5 stars Dead On
This book is dead on. Don't worry about the publishing date being 1997--these are the basics and they still apply. 1.0 out of 5 stars The Artistic Integrity of Capitalism?
I think it's funny that these people use the words "commercials" and "acting" in the same breath. Ya, the acting community is real proud of your performance in the Hershey's chocolate-bar commercial. Grow a brain!

5.0 out of 5 stars Dead On, July 23, 2000
This book is dead on. Don't worry about the publishing date being 1997--these are the basics and they still apply. Having appeared in a national commercial, relocated to Los Angeles after four years of regional experience, and now going on several auditions for principal parts each and every week, the authors capture the experience "dead on" and offer invaluable advice. As you read the book, make sure you have a highlighter or pad and pencil handy to jot down specifics that apply to you. I've already updated my resume based on the authors' suggestions and have arranged for a more appropriate headshot. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

This book is a very thorough introduction to Commercial Acting. Perfect for a beginner who wants to learn how to start acting in commercials. The book will teach you about getting your commercial headshots, how to put together an acting resume, and what training you will need. There is also a valuable chapter on avoiding Scams. If you want to know what to expect on a commercial audition and how the casting of commercials is done - this book is for you. A very useful resource for any commercial actor.

5.0 out of 5 stars It really works, March 4, 2005

The introduction by Jason Alexander is priceless, most specifically with his advice to grow in a regional market and take charge of my own career with a showcase. Four weeks after buying the book, tentatively opening it and finally applying the steps outlined brilliantly in the book, I had my first commercial audition and created a staged reading for a potential full production of a one person show. This is the first how-to-get-ahead book that really worked for me. Thank you!

This review is from: Breaking into Commericals: The Complete Guide to Marketing Yourself, Auditioning to Win, And Getting the Job, 2nd ed. (Paperback)
There is TRUTH in advertising when it comes to this book. Just as the title states "breaking in.." one can expect to find a great compendium of information on ALL aspects of acting on and off camera in commercials.
Terry brings a special panache to the story --- her Madison Ave. experience. Few if any casting directors on either coast can compare to her resume. If you're starting out or looking to jump start your career again in the biz, buy this book. Oh, and don't expect just to read it cover to cover. Expect to have it readily available within arms reach for constant reference and you chase your dream in the world of spots.

5.0 out of 5 stars Getting that extra edge, November 17, 2006
This review is from: Breaking into Commericals: The Complete Guide to Marketing Yourself, Auditioning to Win, And Getting the Job, 2nd ed. (Paperback)
I have been doing commercials for over 50 years, and I'm always seeking that "extra edge." "Breaking into Commercials" is by far the best book I've ever read to give that "extra edge" to seasoned talent, or to those that are just beginning. It is the most comprehensive guide to give the beginner confidence, and refocus the experienced to a winning career boost.
This is a must to read. Do yourself a favor and put one in your car and one next to your bedstand. Having this book is giving yourself a raise.
