5.0 out of 5 stars An Enlightening And Vitriolic Conclusion! September 20, 2013
Format:MP3 Music|Verified Purchase
Right after spending seven proud years with Sony Classical’s jazz department,
the versatile and always confident Eldar Djangirov have decided to switch over to
the Motema production label, not only to resume his successful recording career,
but to further enhance his colourful artistry a step further and to finally get greater
production involvement beginning with this album. Recorded live in the recording
studio and released to absolute acclaim in 2013, Breakthrough exudes the world
class artistry, composition brilliance, high voltage swing and solid interplay as his
trio pushes the envelope in piano jazz performing, as he serves up an electrifying
combination of ‘new’ original compositions and classy takes on classic standards.
Starting off on a high mark with the new original classic Point Of View Redux, the
kaleidoscopic track set has plenty for everyone that consist of takes on standards
like Somebody Loves Me, Irving Berlin’s What’ll I Do, Radiohead’s Morning Bell,
Bill Evans’ No Moon At All as well as captivating original compositions such as In
Pursuit, Tokyo Pulse and the title track. With cameo appearances by multi-reeds
giant Chris Potter (on the impressively layered title track) and vibraphone master
Joe Locke (on the dizzying Blink), Breakthrough is a bonafide masterpiece which
highlights Eldar’s impressive piano stylings and robust composing skills whom he
handles with true expectation and swinging vitality as the thundering solos brings
down the house with titanium force. This timeless labour of love is an electrifying
fun filled blast that will certainly be hailed as one of his celebrated achievements.

Great pianist, great music! Amazing! His classical training is evident with fantastic results. I would compare him to Michel Camilo and Arturo Sandoval for the technical prowess and great interpretations. Strongly recommended.
