As a current student and aspiring entrepreneur I have read countless books on entrepreneurship/start-ups and I can confidently say that Breakthrough Entrepreneurship stands above the rest. Similar books approach entrepreneurship by offering either a very generic how-to-guide or simply a catalogue of inspirational anecdotes. BE offers a potent blend of both, and more.

BE breaks down the entrepreneurial process into distinct, critical steps: seeking opportunity, forming a team, raising capital, creating a product/service, monetization, and on. At each step, the authors provide a two-sided deep dive. At one end they describe the importance and implementation of each step, and at the other, they offer pertinent case studies that exemplify the process. With this simple yet powerful, methodical approach to teaching entrepreneurship, BE offers concrete guidance on how to start a company as well as some perspective on how the most successful entrepreneurs have done it.

Ultimately this book is fantastic because it serves dual purposes. You can read it as a novel, inspiring and motivating you to start a venture. But more importantly, you can also utilize BE as a textbook, guiding you at each step of your own entrepreneurial journey.

"Breakthrough Entrepreneurship" was a fantastic read and was taught to me from Jon Burgstone himself at an Entrepreneurship course in UC Berkeley! From a student's perspective, this book helped me develop business acumen and brought up crucial topics worth thinking about. "Breakthrough Entrepreneurship" highlights possible pitfalls and predicaments that many beginning entrepreneurs succumb to and details how to avoid them. The book was well-written, and more importantly, easy to grasp and understand. Reading this book will ultimately set you on the right path to entrepreneurship and give you the proper tools to get started. This is your Bible for starting your own company and pursuing your dream!-- No matter what stage you are in your life, this is a MUST READ for any aspiring successful entrepreneur!

A friend of mine recommended this book and let me tell you, I'm glad they did! Breakthrough Entrepreneurship is a must read for anyone who has ever contemplated starting a business of any kind. Whether you want to start an online store, chopped salad restaurant, or car repair business, this book takes you from the brainstorming and planning phase all the way to success. I love the fact that it's incredibly accessible while at the same time teaching complex concepts through interesting case studies. I particularly loved learning about the creative founders of Zipcar and Teach for America. Reading this book saved me thousands of dollars and years of wasted time by learning the idea I was working on for my own business wasn't quite right yet. I can't thank Burgstone and Murphy enough for this! If you are thinking about starting a business, do yourself a favor and buy this book.

As a small business owner and avid reader, I often find myself perusing the "how to" books on entrepreneurship. Many promise a different dynamic or approach that will lead to unprecedented success. Unfortunately, most tend to be little more than a whimsical cliché of self-help jargon mixed in with economics 101. This book, Breakthrough Entrepreneurship, is quite the opposite. It provides a comprehensive framework to think about customer needs, launch the business and grow the business, while even talking about the personal impact on the people involved in the business. You can tell that the authors not only studied a lot of successful start-ups, but author Burgstone also parallels much of the business acumen that he gained from launching his own business and making it one of America's true success stories. This is required reading for anyone wanting to start a company or even launch a new product in an existing company.

Very insightful and structured to provide steps you can follow. I loved it, and was impressed too with the quality of the writing. It's paced very well and and you feel confident Burgstone and Murphy are experts who have been through it, know the ups & downs, and still love their subject.

Breakthrough Entrepreneurship is a valuable read on so many levels. Not only does if offer step-by-step practical advice, but it also encourages you to evaluate your own strengths and weaknesses so you can determine if you have the personality to start a business. I plan to share this book with family and friends. I don't have a true entrepreneurial spirit, but I find it fascinating to read how and why others can and do. BE is both practical and fun to read.

Breakthrough Entrepreneurship is provides a fundamental framework for anyone who aspires to become an entrepreneur someday. Through anecdotes and short stories, lessons from successful individuals who built their own businesses are shared. The stories are fun to read, and they are well-selected, each illustrating a clear point. As someone who wants to create a company someday, this book provided a great framework for me to get started. This book is not only informative, it feels personally written, and you can gain life lessons from the stories themselves. It's inspiring. You don't need to be an aspiring entrepreneur to have enjoy this book.
