I needed a new computer to catalog and edit photos, and VISTA was already installed, but I needed to know how to use some of its features. I was attracted to this book because it concentrates on using the photo, music and video programs, exactly what I wanted.

However, I was curious why there was a photo of a female model on the cover (unlike any other computer books I've seen). Was this a book geared towards women? It seems that it is, and I don't like the conversational tone, assuming that all I'm going to use the computer for is organizing photos of my kids. It has sexist comments that bother me, such as "even the most mundane topics are awesome, such as reminiscing about the crush you had on the quarterback of your high school's football team".

But, I decided that the content was more important the cover. The positive news is that the book clearly explains what it promises, and gave me a good start for using these features, especially the photo program. The Webshots are excellent. I would have liked it to have a more "professional" tone, but I guess I'll have to look elsewhere for that.
