I am thrilled that this book exists to help guide patient's through their cancer journey. As an oncology nurse practitioner I find that many breast cancer patient's still have questions after their consultation with their physician. This book is a wonderful tool because patient's can refer to the sections they need and take their time to fully understand their condition and treatment options. I've had several patients come into the office with many sections of the book highlighted and bookmarked. These patient's stated that they felt empowered and informed and were glad that they were able to be active participants in their cancer treatment. I highly recommend this book to anyone embarking on their cancer journey.

I found Dr. Chan's honest and open discussions about coping with the devastating news of breast cancer to be inspiring and reassuring. Not only will patients and their families benefit from this information, but I would highly recommend it for the nurses who may be envolved in their care. "Thank-you" Dr. Chan for taking the time to write such a comprehensive guide book!

At a time of receiving frightening/shocking health news, this book is well organized, a great reference, and easy to read and use. Best of all, it's a terrific resource when you can't remember the answer to a question you've previously asked, either because you can't find your notes or due to a temporary case of "chemo brain". Consider giving this book as a gift instead of sending flowers. As a breast cancer survivor, I wish this book had been available when I was starting my journey to wellness.

5.0 out of 5 stars Patient's Guide to Breast Cancer, February 19, 2006
I wish this book was available 8 years ago when I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I spent hours pouring through literature deciphering what exactly was my condition and treatment options. This book contains what Drs. spend much of their time in educating their patients, and gives a hard reference to answers that they did not know how to ask. The informative and sensitive, user-friendly format demonstrates Dr. Chan's years of experience and expertise as a practicing Oncologist.

5.0 out of 5 stars Breast Cancer: Real Questions, Real Answers, February 8, 2006
This is a "must have" book. As I embark on my own breast cancer journey, I often am seeking answers at inopportune times, i.e. 2:00 am on Sunday morning. For those times, I found that Dr. Chan's book serves as a great resource that provides clear, understandable explanation for my concerns. This resource clarified aspects of my treatment plan (thus no surprises) and give lots of practical advice to anticipate the next step of my journey. I love the case examples. I highly recommend this book to my breast cancer peers and her support system (family and friends).

Best Wishes,

Celia Hogenson

5.0 out of 5 stars A book with answers to important questions., February 6, 2006

My wife has Breast Cancer, and David Chan's book has given me the answers to many questions I've had about her breast cancer. This book is in a Q & A form as well as having many informative diagrams. It reads not as a Medical text book. But rather as a guide to many of the most important questions either a patient or family member will have.It also features profiles of different breast cancer patients and explains the answers to their questions or situations. I strongly recomend David Chan's book. He is both gifted as a Doctor, and an author. Good Health to you all !! ...David Kida

5.0 out of 5 stars Information = Empowerment, May 18, 2006
By
David Chan, MD presents an informative, current and handy tool for anyone needing answers about breast cancer. His question and answer format allows patients to start at the beginning of the discussion with basic questions, or pick up the book anywhere and find answers.

Written in Dr. Chan's relaxed, conversational style, the book reads like he speaks and presents to the participants of our Community. In Wellness Community support groups, we encourage participants, patient and family alike, to become Patient Active® with their treatment process, combining the "will of the patient with the skill of the physician." Dr. Chan is offering this book and encouraging everyone affected by breast cancer to become informed and empowered with accurate and understandable information.

Starting with basic questions, Dr. Chan's writing can act as a primer for the newly diagnosed and their support persons. He also mingles suggestions for self-care based on recent research with vignettes about women facing early stage and advanced disease. His work offers us another practical tool in our battle with cancer.
