Editorial Reviews

Review

Breast Cancer Recurrence and Advanced Disease provides a lot of relevant information to women with the condition. It discusses tools and resources to deal with a scary diagnosis, is practical and easy to read, and is written in an objective manner about medicine, daily living, and dying. Women struggling with the condition will find strength and guidance in this book.”—Helena Chang, M.D., Ph.D., Director of the Revlon/UCLA Breast Center

“This book is a wonderful resource for women diagnosed with a recurrence of breast cancer. It explains both the medical and the emotional implications of a second diagnosis of breast cancer and offers women practical information on treatment, as well as on matters such as finding funds to pay for treatment. It also gives excellent advice on wills, durable powers of attorney, advanced medical directives, and other issues people tend not to consider soon enough. The pros and cons of complementary and alternative approaches for this condition are clearly laid out.”—Terry and Joe Graedon, The People’s Pharmacy

I wish I had had this book when my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer 15 years ago. It would have been a great help to her and her family when we were being bombarded with information, emotions, and decisions.
The book is incredibly grounding in its guidance for filtering through immense amounts of information.

It supplies, in a wise and compassionate way, a depth of experience that helps alleviate the feelings of aloneness that can come with a diagnosis of recurred breast cancer. It offers insights into what feelings may arise, what our responses might be, and how to make decisions about our lives and bodies; treatments and choices.

Even now, reading this book helped to heal and lift me from unresolved emotions around my confusion with my mother's illness.

This book is an excellent resource for all women with breast cancer. It is well written, well organized and easy to read. It is also a scholarly work with technical areas so complete that they could be used by any student audience. The book is written for women who face the possibility of a limited life span. While some will rely on others to advise them, others will want the facts, all the facts. This book makes finding these facts easier than ever before. The information is current and links are provided for updated information. There is much to learn about living well with cancer by reading Dr Gordon's book. I wish such a book had been available for my patients with gynecologic cancers
