Book Description

November 1, 2002
With the increasing number of women seeking medical attention and the medical community's efforts to detect breast lesions earlier, surgical pathologists are faced with a greater number of breast biopsies. As a consequence, the number of hyperplastic lesions and noninvasive carcinomas has increased in pathology laboratories.

The main aim of this CD is to help the practicing pathologist find a quick, simple, and well-illustrated source of information for diagnosing and differentiating epithelial breast lesions. The CD has been designed keeping in mind the most common lesions that the pathologist may find problematic in practice. Each of the nine chapters is devoted to a specific entity, including its diagnosis and differential diagnosis. Ductal and lobular lesions are described in great detail, with separate chapters addressing specifically papillary proliferations and lesions with apocrine differentiation and flat-type lesions. For this purpose, the text and references have been kept to a minimum, highlighting the similarities and differences between the lesions and presenting multiple images representative of each entity. Throughout each chapter, the reader will find highlighted keywords that are linked to the corresponding images. With the application of virtual microscopy, each image can be viewed at three different magnifications and the user can switch magnifications as well as select different fields of the same image. Tables with comparisons of the most important features of each lesion and summaries of the most significant findings for the differential diagnosis are included in the majority of the chapters.
