5.0 out of 5 stars By far the BEST book available for Breast Cancer Patients
Your Breast Cancer Treatment Handbook was given to me at a cancer support group this past week. I laughed & I cried reading through this! I wish this had been given to me 6 years ago when I was diagnosed the 1st time with breast cancer at age 33 (lumpectomy, chemo & radition). Here I am again at 39 just having had a mastectomy & reconstruction surgery...

2.0 out of 5 stars not enough info
As a healthcare provider myself, I was a little disappointed that the information, coming from a nurse was a bit too surficial -- lots of touchy-feelies, not enough hard core info.

Reconstruction issues were glossed over. Brachytherapy was not described. Took me a long time to figure out how chemo and hormonal therapy fit together.

Here I am again at 39 just having had a mastectomy & reconstruction surgery. This is by far the best source of information I have seen! This book should be available to ALL breast cancer patients. Very easy to read, understand & comprehend. Sincerely, Judith Oak-Watson A very proud "perky" breast cancer survivor

5.0 out of 5 stars one of the best books i have read, April 17, 2000

Cathy Cannon (Moore, South CArolina) - See all my reviews
I was given this book when I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer--it is beautifully written, lots of positive comments from cancer survivors--I had to read it in "pieces"--I could only read as much as my heart would allow regarding treatment. I have read it all now. It is a great source to turn to for each step of the process. I am beginning chemotherapy next week--it has been a tremendous help with "what's next?" and how I will feel. Lists of questions for your surgeon and oncologist are extremely helpful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Resource, April 2, 2000
By A Customer
I am currently being treated for breast cancer, and this book has been one of my most useful tools in making intelligent, well informed choices. It's hard to ask the right questions when something this scary comes along. Judy has included some of the best. I reccomemd it to everyone from the first diagnosis, through that final treatment.

5.0 out of 5 stars Your Breast Cancer Treatment Handbook: Your Guide to Understanding the Disease, Treatments, Emotions and Recovery from Breast Ca, April 10, 2006

Spread the word about this superb book and the companion book for helpmates.

My own diagnosis of stage 3B breast cancer in November of '05 launched a search for materials that would guide me through the maze of tests, consultations, and treatment options. My sister-in-law, a retired nurse, quickly responded with this 6th edition/05 book and it's companion: Helping Your Mate Face Breast Cancer.

These books are given to each incoming patient by the Grant/Riverside Breast Health Center in Columbus,Ohio. A Breast Health Nurse uses these handbooks and the training given by the author to support patients throughout their treatment.

I have been so impressed with the easy to understand text and drawings ....particularly of the pathology report terms and lymphatic staging diagrams. I have come to believe through research and experience that this is the most comprehensive/inclusive patient-friendly book available to the newly diagnosed and their families.

This book is not sold in retail bookstores.
When I show this book to others they seek it out.
My local Wellness House is ordering these books for the library.
My hematology/oncology doctor has purchased them for her staff and patients.
The Lynn Sage Breast Center of Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago now gives this book to new patients.
This book is top notch...spread the word.

5.0 out of 5 stars Your Breast Cancer Treatment Handbook Review, October 5, 1998

This review is from: Your Breast Cancer Treatment Handbook (Educare Library Series) (Paperback)
"Breast Cancer is an unwelcome visitor in any woman's life. You have found yourself forced to embrace an unwanted enemy. Yet, even in the midst of this frightening and often lonely experience, you do have the capacity to find new strength and work through the challenge. Like thousands of other women, you can become a triumphant survivor" Judy Kneece

Judy Kneece has taken her years of experience in being a breast health specialist and support person for women with breast cancer and has turned it into a guidebook for those who are newly diagnosed and overwhelmed with the implications of this disease. This book is a veritable goldmine of information on treatment options, questions to ask, diagnostic tests, etc. Written in laymen's terms with a glossary of medical terms provided, it is easily understood and offers drawings to help explain what each surgery involoves.

This book has proven to be of so much value for our patients, we have elected to provide a copy to every woman who is diagnosed with breast cancer in our facility. This book will not only alleviate fear and anxiety, it will empower women to take control of their lives and their illness. I urge clinicians everywhere to make this book available to any woman with a breast cancer diagnosis. Deirdre D. Young, RN, OCN. Nurse Coordinator Breast Health Services Lexington Medical Center

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Bet for Breast Cancer Info, October 22, 2007
Newly diagnosed with breast cancer, my surgeon handed me this book at our initial meeting. What a Godsend! The text is brief enough to read quickly, but comprehensive enough to answer any questions one might have, as well as those not yet thought of, about breast cancer. The information is arranged in distinct chapters so that you need only read about whichever stage you or a loved one are going through. It is a "must read" before discussing options with your surgeon, oncologist, radioncologist, and plastic surgeon and even provides a list of questions for each. Should be required reading following any breast cancer diagnosis - both for the patient and their loved ones.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This book came highly recommended and we found it to be very informative and helpful. It provided information in clear and understandable terms about the different drugs, their side effects and the various protocols of treatment. It lived up to the recommendation and I would recommend it for other breast cancer patients and their families.
